Lee Michael Smith

1982 ~ 2017

CAMP TAJI, IRAQ — Lee Michael Smith died at Camp Taji, Iraq, on Saturday, November 11, 2017, in a non-combat related death.

Lee was a graduate of Cadillac High School, Class of 2000. Shortly after, he attended Western Michigan University and Utah Valley University. CWO Smith, an eight-year Army officer, joined the military in 2009. He was a rotary wing aviator and flew the Apache. He was involved with Operation Inherent Resolve, a military campaign to eliminate the threat posed by ISIS in Iraq and Syria. During his military service, CWO Smith was recognized with several accolades, including the Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge and Army Aviator Badge.

Lee is survived by his wife, Jennifer Gillmor Smith, and their two children, Shepard and Amelia; his parents, Lee and Sonya Smith; his sister, Haley Highley and her husband, Jon, and children, Jonathan and Leighton; Jennifer\s parents, Jamie and Linda Gillmor; Jennifer\s siblings, Cache Gillmor, Rachel Hamilton and her husband, Daniel, and sons Tristan and Ethan, and Stephen Gillmor.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Lee's honor on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at The Chateau at The Rose Shop, 1910 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, UT with a visitation from 1:00 ‚ 2:00 p.m. prior to the celebration.
