Irene Horn Lilischkis died on March 5, 2021 at the age of 85. Irene was born on September 30, 1935 in Wolfshagen, Germany, the second daughter of Walter Horn and Margarete Gluth Horn. She was raised in Germany and immigrated to Salt Lake City with her parents and two sisters in 1952. That year she also married her husband of many years, Harry E. Lilischkis. She had a daughter, Pamela in 1957.

Irene was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as ward organist, gospel doctrine teacher and in the Relief Society Presidency. She was also a temple worker for eight years. This calling gave her great joy.

Irene worked for General Electric Supply for 35 years as executive assistant to the region manager and then as a project coordinator. She retired in 1998. After retirement she was able to pursue her passions of travel and gardening. Her garden was always the envy of her neighborhood. She enjoyed taking trips to various parts of the country and Europe with her sister Annegret and loved learning about other cultures.

Above all, family was the most important of her priorities. She loved and supported her daughter and granddaughter in all their efforts and also supported her nieces and nephews and their families. She never missed a birthday, recital or concert for the children in the family. Irene was also a loyal sister and friend. Her love, kindness and service to us all was an inspiration. She was truly an example of a loving nurturing daughter of our Heavenly Father who always put others before herself. Irene will be missed and remembered with much love.

Irene is survived by her daughter Pamela Rasmussen, granddaughter Ariel Rasmussen, sister Annegret Horn Richards, her beloved nieces and nephews and their families, and cousins in Germany. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Evelyn Horn Pruess, former husband Harry Lilischkis, and her son-in-law Anton Rasmussen.

A family funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 10th, 2021 at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary. Internment at the same Cemetery will follow.
The family would like to thank the University of Utah Hospital Palliative Care Unit and Community Nursing Services Hospice for their compassionate care of Irene in her last days.

Guestbook/Condolences

Pam,

I was able to attend the service by Zoom.

Your mother was everything you and the others said. She always was a delight and perfectly nice to me, even when I didn't deserve it. I did not realize she was so multi-talented and hardworking. I guess her modesty was one of her greatest attributes.

I'm sorry for your loss but glad that she has been freed from the pains of this life.
