Jean Parker Whetman

1925 ~ 2015

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt and friend, Jean peacefully passed away on May 26th at the age of 89 with her family by her side.

Jean was born July 14, 1925 in Sugarhouse, Utah to parents James and Ellen Parker. Her mother preceded her in death in 1931. Jean was raised in American Fork by her uncle and aunt, Rulon and Ethel Parker. She married her true love, Galen Whetman, on July 14, 1945.

Jean was a passionate creator: painting, sewing, baking, cooking and piano playing. Her excitement for socializing and learning lead to her attend B.Y.U., a job as a Kelly Girl and positions at Taag Designs, J.C. Penney and White City Water. She had the most genuine appreciation for life, her family and friends. She did not take anything for granted and expressed her love and gratitude for each person in her life. The smallest tokens of kindness from others meant so much to her; she kept a collection of cards, artwork and miscellaneous mementos she received from family and friends. Jean shared her love and creativity with others by gifting beautiful handmade clothing, blankets, crafts and treats. She enjoyed music and dancing her entire life; Galen's ability to dance made her fall head-over-heels in love with him. Jean was always sure to be spotted with a camera, extra rolls of film and printed photos in tote; she had a real knack for capturing life's moments on film.

Jean lived a full life and will be greatly missed. She will always be remembered for her sweet demeanor and generous, kind heart.

Jean is survived by her son, Wayne, granddaughters, Machel (Michael) Devin, Whitney (Nate) Becker and three great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Galen Whetman and grandson, Clinton Whetman.
