Theodora \"Teddy\" Curtis

1935 ~ 2014

Theodora "Teddy" Claire Weyant Curtis, 79, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully from cancer, at home in Hanford, California, December 4th, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Teddy was born in Newburgh, New York in September,on Fridaythe 13th (a fact she was tickled with and may have influenced the family\s love of Halloween). She was daughter to Vincent Kenneth Sr. and Esther Leah Weyant and second oldest of four siblings. She grew up in Highland Falls, New York and frequented West Point. Teddy graduated Highland Falls High School and could still name everyone in her class picture as if it was yesterday. As a child she was shy, but found strength and confidence after becoming a mother while raising her children.

Teddy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). She served in many church callings within the ReliefSociety, Primary andSundaySchool. She had an aptness for genealogy and shared her gift by teaching it to others. She hadtraced her lineage to the pre-1400s and over thousands of ancestors. Teddy had an unquestionable testimony of the gospel and shared it openly with many.

She was not only a hard worker and dedicated mother she was fun-loving, adventurous and creative. She liked hiking, camping, traveling, and hobbies of sewing, crafting, scrapbooking, decorating, photography and floriculture. She was an avid reader of the scriptures with an extensive library of church books. As a member of the LDS Red Hen Society she especially enjoyed the scripture readings and luncheons with the gals.

Teddy lived in many places, but mainly resided in New York, North Dakota, Utah and California. Never shying from hard work she managed a large farm (filled with many an adventure) in Valley City, North Dakota and even spent one summer in Valdez, Alaska processing salmon. She eventually retired from working for the LDS Business College after which she moved to California to be a nanny for two of her grandchildren.

Mother laughed easily and thrived on the laughter of her family. She supported her children in their many endeavors and was always there to support or comfort. Her words of encouragement were given with inspiration and a hug. She was a caring mother and a great example of willfulness and perseverance. She is well-loved, will be long remembered and sorely missed.

Teddy is survived by her brood of 7 adoring children: Kathie, Blaine, Sherri, Darren, Shayne, Cory, and Dawn, 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and her siblings Esther, Pat, Ken, and Bryan. She was preceded in death by her parents.
