Our dear mother, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Sharp) Whitlock, died while surrounded by her family on the evening of November 20, 2023.
Born September 7, 1939, to Samuel Sharp and Dorta (Gledhill) Sorensen, in Gunnison, Utah. She married Larry H. Whitlock on September 20, 1958, in Gunnison, Utah, and they were sealed in 2007 at the Jordan River Temple.

Jackie graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1957 and then attended Utah State University until she married Larry the following year. She worked for Sunwood Homes and Celebrity Homes as an Office Manager for many years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and enjoyed singing in the church choir and volunteering at the Church Office Building.

Always a social butterfly, Jackie loved spending time with her friends, and had many wonderful, lifelong friends who were a constant source of support to her, including her dearest childhood friend, Ida, especially after Larry’s death. She was an enthusiastic Utah Jazz fan for many decades, and always looked forward to the start of every season. Jackie was an avid reader. She never went anywhere without a book to enjoy. Another passion was playing cards with her friends, especially the game of Bridge and Hand and Foot. Because of her card-playing ability, in her later years, she used her skills to teach others at the Salt Lake Community Center. Jackie was passionate about her pets, and always had at least one cat throughout her life. She enjoyed knitting and cross-stitching beautiful baby blankets for friends and family that were treasured by all who received them. Jackie was known for her homemade cookies and brownies. Friends and grandkids could always count on a freezer full of homemade treats. Jackie had a green thumb when it came to flowers and always had a gorgeous rose garden wherever she lived.

She is survived by her three children: Marianne Pierson, Shannon (Mitch) Rice, and John (Doug Bingham). Five grandchildren: Ethan (Bella), Clint, Connor, Rylee, and Raegan. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry and her parents.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the love and support of family, friends, and neighbors during the many physical challenges she endured this year.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11:00 am, with the viewing immediately preceding the funeral at 9:30-1045 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South in Sandy. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.

What a wonderful tribute that brings back so many memories. I remember going over to Shannon’s house so many times and Jackie would be throwing a bridge game party or some other wonderful social event. I would try to sneak a taste of her awesome clam dip when she wasn’t looking. Her ability to gather groups of friends and neighbors together for a great game and delicious food is something I really admire. Also, both me and my daughter still cherish her wonderful cross stitch blankets and towels. You will be missed, Jackie!
