Jaelene Val Myrup, 78, passed away on June 16, 2021, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Born on February 16, 1943, in Salt Lake City to Jerome Lars and Elizabeth K. Brunisholz Myrup, Jaelene was a gifted artist whose watercolors and woodblock prints brightened the lives of family and friends. She graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in German and went on to teach art at Churchill Junior High School for many years. A lover of all things German, her correspondence with distant cousins in Bavaria and Switzerland bound her American family to their Germanic roots. A longtime member of the Wasatch Mountain Club, Jaelene enjoyed hiking and sketching a diverse assortment of canyons that wind in and out of the Salt Lake Valley.

Survived by her brothers Edwin J. (Diane) Myrup of Murray, and John L. Myrup of Lewiston, Utah; her nieces and nephews Erik L. (Cheryl) Myrup of Lexington, KY; Gregg D. (Mindi) Myrup of Williamsburg, VA; Kristin M. (Jason) Covili of South Salt Lake; Emily M. (Steven) Morrison of Memphis, TN; Mathew J. Myrup of Salt Lake City; 14 great nieces and nephews; and family friend Jeff Sandstrom.

Guestbook/Condolences

Jaelene was a good neighbor. She was the first person to welcome me to the neighborhood and she always kept an eye on things for me. She will be missed.

The Wasatch Mountain Club would like to extend their condolences on the passing of our friend Jaelene.
She was known for her popular "Art Hikes" with the club, she had quite the following when she led these hikes.
She was a "Life Member" of the WMC, having joined the club in 1972 and contributed significantly to the club's activities.
May she rest in peace

Jaelene was my older sister Carolyn’s BFF and together they had many fine adventures. I have early memories of them, decked out in pedal-pushers and bobby socks and heading off to school in Bountiful. After my sister passed, I and my spouse Kathy became close to Jaelene and celebrated manuy gatherings at her house. The “patio pass outs” as Jaelene called them, drew from a diverse group of friends and were always memorable. Her artistic talents were inspirational and we greatly value the several block prints gifted to us over the years. We will miss Jaelene and hope that she and Carolyn are together once more and causing trouble in the great beyond.

Our family has known Jaelene for many years since she was best friends with my younger sister, Carolyn, in their youth. After Carolyn died in 1998, Jaelene kept in touch with the rest of the family and most especially our mother, who always greatly appreciated Jaelene's interest in her welfare. Just the other day, I was going through some old letters and found a number from Jaelene, sending me news about my family members in Salt Lake City and with various newspaper clippings she thought I would be interested in, and some announcements about her art shows. Thank you, Jaelene, for your friendship over the years, and may you rest in peace.

Known respectfully to myself and other students as "Miss Myrup", she was an outstanding teacher and I appreciated her talents as an artist! I went on to become an architect, but the times I spent in her class helped me appreciate the artistic things and attention to detail. I attended Churchill HS in the mid 70's. On a few occasions I would return and visit her over the years. I will always be grateful for her service and friendship as a teacher. She had a positive and influential impact on my life! I hope one day we can meet again.
