James Allen Dickson, 60, of Salt Lake City, passed away on June 27th, 2023, after an unexpected cardiovascular episode.

James was born on November 7th, 1962, to Blaine Dickson and Dorothy Calica in Subic Bay Naval, Philippines. After James attended Bassett High School in1979, he went on to study upholstery at a nearby trade school.

James Allen Dickson, the youngest of 4, described by family as highly inquisitive and independent, began his life in La Puente California. James began his amateur boxing career at the young age of 9 years old; alongside older brother Blaine Dickson. James went on to achieve success in boxing obtaining Jr. Golden Gloves and Jr. Olympic championships. James and family resided in La Puente, CA, through his teenage years. James exhibited a high level of love and consideration for his mother, Dorothy Calica, even assisting her through periods of health complications as a primary caregiver. James and older brother Blaine then relocated to San Diego through 1980; when both brothers relocated and settled in Las Vegas, NV; to continue both their professional boxing careers.

James was known as a jack of all trades, immersing himself in upholstery as a small business owner, in addition to creative custom works with boxing apparel design and production. James went on to assist, mentor, guide, and coach many at risk youths in both amateur and professional boxing careers. James's abundant knowledge and passion for boxing led him to travel and meet many diverse people and places. While James encountered many new things, his true and foremost love was that of knowing and following the teachings of Jesus Christ.

James, through many trials and tribulations, never wavered in his inner belief that God almighty, through Jesus Christ had control of his life. James went on to meet and marry Reina Soriano in Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 5th, 2015. James assisted his new spouse in relocating to Salt Lake City, Utah, to continue her career as a registered nurse. James spent the remainder of his days side by side with his wife, driving her to and from work and encouraging her through the hardships of life. Colossians 3: 18-19 The husband seeks to lead his wife in God-honoring, Christlike ways. He works to sacrificially love his wife just as Christ loved the church.

James observed the teachings of Christ through The Seventh Day Adventist Church, observing sabbath on Friday through Saturday. During his last months, James would encourage his spouse and family to find and keep a relationship with God. He noted to his spouse that God had blessed him with 2 angels, “one on each shoulder", and that when he would pass away, he would be "in the presence of the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5: 8. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

James Allen Dickson touched so many lives during his short time. James would always talk and reminisce about his loved ones and their shared memories. James left behind a vast collection of diverse music, as an avid collector. James additionally left behind multiple love projects to include old vintage automobiles and memorabilia. James's greatest gift left behind was that to his loved ones, his larger than life presence that exuded love and compassion, first imprinted into him by Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:17–18 King James Version

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporary; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

James was predeceased by his mother Dorothy Calica and father Blaine Dickson. I had the privilege of knowing James for a brief period in Las Vegas when we were both in our early twenties. He was fun loving with a great sense of humor and I admired the close bond this Classic Angeleno had with his brother.

James , I'm so glad to read that many were touched by your Light Within. I was lucky to catch a glimpse of it back in the day as it set you apart from the rest of the pack on your triumphant journey.
