James Eugene Petersen, age 82, passed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2022.

Jim was born on 6/17/1939 in Staples, Minnesota. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp after graduating from Graveraet High School in Marquette, MI. Jim worked in the Core Drilling Industry and had a notable career with Longyear Drilling Company. Jim’s strong work ethics and passion for core drilling had him working all over the US to support his family.

Jim was the number one Green Bay Packers fan and passed on his love of the Packers to his children. Jim was the all-around fix it guy (done Jim’s way; duct tape, spray paint, gorilla glue and staples). He loved crafting, his favorite was painting Packers and U of U gnomes for everyone. Jim was an avid reader, political debater and always a jokester.

Jim married Joan Edith Krieg in Marquette, MI on 12/21/1963. He is survived by his wife Joan and their children; Mark Petersen (Brett Becker), Ramona Nielsen (Roy), Jamie Christensen (John), Jeanette Petersen, Jacqueline Petersen, James Petersen (Michelle). Granddaughters Madison Roe and Jorden Otterstrom. Sister, Marguerite Adair, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was loved by all.

Preceded in death by his parents Robert and Margaret, brothers Richard and Robert, sisters Geraldine, Patricia and Mary.

Laid to rest at a private family graveside service at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy.

In lieu of flowers you may donate to the American Cancer Society.

Guestbook/Condolences

Jim was a wonderful younger brother and I will miss him so much. He was a family man not only to his wife and children, but also to his birth family; always considerate of his brothers and sisters and his parents. He was the Best Man at my wedding 66 years ago and continued to be a best man to my husband, Harley, and myself these many years. Harley passed away in 2020; and I can now imagine that he and Jim are back to their endless conversations about politics and football. Rest in peace, dear brother.

Joan, Sorry to hear of Jim's passing . Some fond memories from back at Graveraet. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Saw Jim's sister at church and she told me he had died. I sent a note to Dogwood with the news. Gordy

Dear Joan and Family,
Marquarite advised me of Jim's passing and I am so sorry for your loss. Though it has been many years since I have seen Jim, I will always think of him with a big smile on his face and his happy disposition. No doubt he is sharing that sense of humor again with all his heavenly family. Wishing you peace and confort in your time of loss. You and Jim are in my prayers.

Steve and I are sending our love, thoughts and prayers. My Uncle Jimmy was a very important person in my life. He and my Dad taught me so much about a way of life and looking at the world. And nobody could make me laugh so much. Many was a night when I was in college, by myself in SLC until my folks moved here from Tokyo, that I was invited over for dinner, politics and jokes. I am so sorry I can't be with you all this weekend, but I will be there in spirit. Much love, Kathy
