James David Klein passed away peacefully at Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah on Thursday, August 24, 2023 after struggling for years due to complications of COPD. The night before taking his last breaths, Jim shared tender moments with his two children, Jamie and Todd; and their spouses, Sam Rogers and Lisa Klein. He reconnected with nine of his twelve surviving grandchildren after not visiting with them since COVID; Jordan Rogers (Amanda), Jadan Rogers, Jace Rogers (Jamison), Jillian Isbell (Ryan), Tanner Klein (Samira), Harrison Klein, Bailey Klein, Peyton Klein, and Krista Seeley Williams (Sean, recently deceased). Jim also experienced a special bonding moment that night with three of his five great-grandchildren. The visit made him happy.

Jim is survived by his caring wife, Pat Klein, and her daughter, Kaylene Ames (Glenn). Both were present when Jim took his last breath. His granddaughter, Krista, and his sister-in-law, Marianne, were also present to witness the merciful moment. We are all so grateful he is no longer suffering.

Jim is also survived by his brother, Richard Klein (Mary); and three other grandchildren, Brooklyn Klein, Jameson Ames and Kehler Ames.

During Jim’s eighty-five years on earth, he lived fast. He had a passion for power. Jim and Pat spent most summer weekends with their kids and friends boating and water skiing on lakes throughout Utah. Jim had the fastest boat on the lake, and it was a blast! Jim also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson with Pat and his many adventurous friends. Oh, the stories they can tell… While Jim was in good health, he enjoyed camping, snow skiing, and golfing. He especially enjoyed his family time at the cabin in Christmas Meadows, WY. During his last several years, Jim lived vicariously through exciting TV shows about cars, sports, and travel. Jim was the President of Klein’s Tri-Cove, a successful, family-owned countertop business in Salt Lake City where he worked more than fifty years with his stepdad, Fred, and his two brothers, Rich and Gary. He enjoyed his work and was very particular about all the details necessary to provide quality products and excellent customer service.

Jim was preceded in death by his birth parents James David Eckhardt and Clara Ostwald Klein; his stepfather, Fred G. Klein; his brother, Gary Klein; and his stepson, Kelly G. Seeley. He was also preceded in death by Princess, his beloved canine companion.

A special thank you to all the health care professionals who kept him comfortable throughout his trying times. He received such good care, and the family is grateful for their service. May Jim rest in peace.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, August 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, August 31st from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens. A chapel service is being held on Thursday, August 31st at 2:00 p.m. and a graveside dedication at 3:15 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, UT.
