  • Janet Romney Hull, 80, of Murray, Utah passed away on October 27, 2021, due to age-related complications.

Janet was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 19, 1941, to Jeannette Murdoch Romney and Wendell Bitner Romney. At age four, Janet became an older sister when her adorable sister, Nan, was born. They laughed and played as girls and on through adulthood. After graduating from East High School in 1959, Janet went on to study English with a minor in Speech and Drama at the U of U. While visiting her aunt in Hawaii in 1963, she met Clyde Lamont Hull, and they married on December 30, 1964, in the Salt Lake City Temple. After their marriage, Janet and Clyde returned to Hawaii where they resided for the next 30 years. During that time, they welcomed their three children, Scott, Mark, and Allyson.

Janet treasured the years she lived in Hawaii. She loved the Hawaiian food and culture and especially the affectionate people. Janet enjoyed being a docent at the beautiful Iolani Palace. She also served as a hospice volunteer, visiting people at the end of their lives. Janet’s deep compassion for others inspired her to serve her fellowmen. She was good at putting others’ needs before her own.

Throughout her life, Janet was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Some of her callings included Primary teacher, Young Women’s President and advisor, and Relief Society President and counselor. She felt that serving with the Young Women surpassed any of her other callings because the youth are so important since they are the future of The Church. She always valued young people.

Janet was fascinated with genealogy and family history. She loved to learn about her ancestors and took trips to England and Scotland to connect with her roots. She was proud of her heritage and ancestors.

In her later years, Janet and Clyde were called to serve at the Intermountain Healthcare Branch in Murray, Utah. They loved visiting with the hospital patients and enjoyed the friendships they developed with the other couples serving there.

Janet loved babies and looked forward to becoming a Nana. Upon finding out that her first grandchild was on the way, she would not let an ocean separate her from her grandchildren. She and Clyde sold their home and left Hawaii to move to Utah. She would always say that all 10 of her grandchildren were “1st Place Winners.” She was so proud of every single one of them. She loved watching each one of them develop their talents and rejoiced with them in their successes.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Jeannette and Wendell Romney. She is survived by her husband, Clyde, her sister, Nan Romney Williams (Dwight), children, Scott Romney Hull (Paula), Mark Stephen Hull (Lachelle), and Allyson Hull Bos (Carlo) and ten grandchildren, Hunter, Christian, James, Kailee, Thomas, Miles, Nathan, Malia, Malialani, and Alissa.

Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Abbington in Murray for all the kindness and care they showed Janet during her last three months.

Janet’s funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Murray Stake Center located at 160 E. 4600 S., Murray, Utah 84107. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. prior to her services. Interment to follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Avenue & N Street, Salt Lake City, Utah.
