Janice Escandon Davis

1931 ~ 2023

Janice Escandon Davis passed away on August 19, 2023, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Janice was born on September 20, 1931, to Albert and Jessie Escandon in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Her three sisters Helen, Betty, Vida and her two favorite dogs Tiberius and Maggie preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son Steve (Gif) Davis, daughter in law Gwen, her two grandsons who she adored Adam (Kenzi) Davis and Ben (Morgan) Davis, and nephews and nieces.

Janice was a graduate of East High School and the University of Utah. She taught girls physical education at Hillside Junior High School for thirty-three years.

Being an avid hockey fan, she was a member of the Salt Lake Golden Eagles Booster Club, serving as secretary and president. Her true passion was watching her two grandsons play hockey. She spent endless hours at the ice rink supporting her boys. She was a proud hockey grandma.

Special thanks to the staff at Whisper Cove Assisted Living. Their wonderful care rendered to our clever, strong-willed, loving, Snickers-giving Matriarch will never be forgotten.

At her request no funeral will be held.

Gif & family,
Roger Baker sent the obit of Janice. Having had a mother myself with Alzheimer’s & my best friend, Kristie, I know there were days you hoped she would go & other days you hoped she might remember you. It is a painful process. Thankfully, we still have our great memories of Janice, you and all our talks about those amazing grandkids!
We would have enjoyed seeing her & you another time. Bless you in your own memories, good son!

Giff,
What an amazing lady. I'll never forget how she'd smile and laugh when Kristie and I would stop over to visit. . I still use the wash cloths she knitted for us. I miss her not waving at me as she would walk by with her walking sticks. My thoughts and prayers of condolences to you and your family.

Mrs. Davis was my PE teacher at Hillside Jr High in 1978. She made class fun and interesting. I wish she could have brought about a change in the one piece, horrible, polyester gym uniform we were required to wear. She taught us important lessons, some that we ignored, like using the showers in the girl’s changing room. Hoping Mrs Davis can rest in peace now because there was no peace in teaching junior high physical education. So sorry to hear of her passing.

It was truly an honor to know and care for Janice. Her wit and smile made her a favorite among everyone (residents and caregivers alike)

I have already missed you, Janice dear. Memories of Curves, shopping at the garden store together, dinners at Olive Garden, visiting at your house with a fridge covered in magnets, but mostly the years of breakfasts at The Original Pancake House..."Half order of dollar pancakes," are all cherished. I love you!!! Hope we're neighbors in heaven. Save me a place, okay? ❤

We are so sorry to hear of Janice's passing. She was a great lady as well as a long-time family friend that the Salt Lake City Golden Eagles Booster Club brought into our lives in the early 1970s. Janice's door was always open when we visited Salt Lake and she graced us with her presence in Edmonton on two separate occasions. Each gathering--whether in Canada or Utah--was a great time filled with much laughter and good times. Janice was a proud mother and grandmother and she will be missed.
