Jo Ann Nelle Conway Wright

1931 ~ 2019

On November 4, 2019 Jo Ann Nelle Conway Wright passed away at the age of 87 in Sandy, Utah. A resident of Sandy since 2006, Jo Ann is the mother two sons Garth Wright of Sandy, Utah and Gregory Wright of Frisco, Texas.

Jo Ann Nelle Conway Wright was born at home on the family farm in York, Nebraska on December 12, 1931 to John William Conway and Nellie Marjorie Moore and was the youngest of four children. Jo Ann graduated from York High School on May 26, 1949 and attended York College then at the age of nineteen became a full-time elementary school teacher in Schickley, Nebraska.

During the summer of 1953 Jo Ann worked at Yellowstone National Park where she met the love of her life park ranger Fred J Wright, of Morgan, Utah. On May 30, 1955 Jo Ann married Fred J Wright at the First United Methodist Church in York, Nebraska. On October 27, 1956 Jo Ann Wright was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by her husband and for the next sixty-three years remained a strong and faithful member of the Church.

In June 1957 Jo Ann and Fred moved to Covina, California where Jo Ann taught elementary school and the couple's first son Gregory Scott was born. On May 22, 1965 Jo Ann and Fred were sealed for time and all eternity at the California Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints and in August of 1965 they welcomed their second son Garth Spencer into the family.

In June 1967 the family relocated to Hemet, California where Jo Ann taught at Hemet Elementary School from 1967 up to her retirement in 1990. In 1986 Jo Ann accomplished a life-long ambition of earning a Master's Degree in Education from Azusa Pacific College.

After retirement in 1990 Jo Ann and Fred served senior missions in Oklahoma and California as well as Temple missions in San Diego and Los Angeles. Jo Ann traveled extensively and explored Europe, Israel, Russia, Central America, Egypt, Alaska, and many of the fifty states. After Fred's passing in 2005 Jo Ann moved to Sandy, Utah where she enjoyed living down the street from her son Garth and being close to her five grandchildren and her many friends in the Quail Hollow Ward.

Jo Ann Nelle Conway Wright leaves behind her sons Garth Wright of Sandy, Utah and Gregory Wright of Frisco, Texas and grandchildren Danielle Wright Decker of New York City, Angela Wright of Salt Lake City, Sarah Wright of Denver, Colorado, Alexander Wright of Provo, Utah and Benjamin Wright of West Jordan, Utah.

Always positive, cheerful and grateful, Jo Ann Nelle Conway Wright lived an active and adventurous life and remained a true and tested disciple of Jesus Christ as well as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. For over thirty-five years "Mrs. Wright" educated hundreds of children who will forever be grateful for her influence in their lives. In her final months she expressed her deep love and commitment to her family, friends, caregivers, departed ancestors and her God. She is missed by all who knew her and leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope, charity and love.
