Jayne Adrieana Stander Chaffin left us unexpectedly on June 7, 2023, surrounded by her children and granddaughter.

Jayne was born on July 10, 1946, the second of eight children born to Harold and Mary Jane Stander. Jayne attended Highland High School, graduating in 1964, where she was the newspaper editor and sang in the acapella group. She worked for ten years at LDS Hospital as a clerk in the Thoracic ICU, where she made lifelong friends. While working, she attended the University of Utah, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in English. Later she earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Utah State. This led her to a fulfilling career as a Mental Health Therapist, changing lives with each patient.

Jayne loved people. She made friends everywhere, and anywhere she went. Dozens of people considered her their second mom. Her children and grandchildren were her very best friends. Jayne’s best life began in September 2011 when her first grandchild was born. Her babies were her whole world. She wanted to spend every waking moment with them and rarely missed a day without seeing or talking to them.

She was the most amazing “Gram.” She had tea parties with real china, weekly sleepovers, and pool parties. Gram never missed a recital, a game, or an awards assembly. She always showed up. She was the most supportive person and was always concerned about the needs of others. Gram’s last day was one she couldn’t have planned more perfectly. She had a sleepover with Emmy, gardening until it rained with Holland and Luki, then jumping into bed and watching movies until they fell asleep. It was her happy place. Jayne had a great flair for design and color and brought out the unique characteristics of the treasures she found at thrift stores and vintage shops. She was a writer of children’s books, an artist, a poet, and a lover of murder mysteries. One of her greatest passions was being in nature, especially gardening. She loved to quilt and sew and made baby blankets for all the babies!

Jayne was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a choice daughter of Heavenly Father and cherished her relationship with Him. She was spiritually in tune with what people needed around her and had a special connection with each of her children. Jayne was generous with her time and talents and never turned away someone in need. She often contemplated the meaning of life, making lists of what she needed to improve in her own life.

Jayne is preceded in death by her parents, brother Harry, and sister-in-law Lori. She is survived by her favorite people, her children: Joshua Merrell Chaffin, Adrieana Beth Matthes, and Gabriele Marie Chaffin, and her biggest fans, her grandchildren: Jade Adrieana Meleane, Jonah Misiluki, Holland Sina Marie, and Emily Lina Jayne.

What a Beautiful Woman. She definitely was the glue to the family. She loved her children like no one I have ever seen. She would glow when her Grand children were in the room. I felt very honored to know this family and will always cherish knowing Jayne. Love to all of you.

Death-The Journey beyond life-

There are remarkable similarities between birth and death.
Bruce R. McConkie said:
"We know that this great plan of progression
called for birth which would provide a mortal
tabernacle for our eternal spirits, and for a death
which would free those spirits from the frailties,
diseases and weaknesses of mortality."
The words birth and death both describe movement.
Birth describes our movement from the spirit world to
mortality. Death describes our movement from mortality
to the spirit world. With each movement we terminate our
existence in one place and initiate our existence in another.
When God sends forth a tiny soul
To learn the ways of earth,
A mother’s love is waiting here—
We call this wonder— birth.
When God calls home a tired soul
And stills a fleeting breath,
A Father’s love is waiting there
This too is birth— not death

I adored Jayne. An angel on earth is now an angel in Heaven having a tea party with Grandma Eggertsen and her sisters
