Kathryn Zoe Larsen Packard

1927 ~ 2016

The day prior to Lindbergh\s historic flight, mom was born in Ephraim, UT, the first of 5 children of Rulon Joseph Larsen and Verna Irene Madsen. Rulon moved his young family to Duchesne, UT when mom was 3 months old. She passed away at home on Friday, February 26, 2016.

She was a graduate of Duchesne High and the U of U with a B. S. in Speech Pathology. In a whirlwind romance she married dad 5 months after their first date. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple and their romance continues in eternity.

Mom exemplified developing ones talents. She had a keen mind as a paralegal for Strong and Hanni as well as a talent for art, becoming accomplished in sculpture, needlepoint and cross-stitch tapestry. She was a docent at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts for 20 years teaching young minds and recruiting other docents. She was a member of the DUP and AAUW for most of her life. She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing bridge and tennis, visits to the cabin and traveling the world.

Mom was an active member of her LDS ward and served in almost every calling a woman can hold. Her favorite calling was that of Family History Consultant. She has a deep testimony of the Savior and life after death. She cherished her many friendships both in and out of the church.

Survived by her sons John R. (Karen) and James M. (Sue), siblings Rulon J. (Nena), L. Dale (Joan) and Elaine Larsen and 3 grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband Russell A., her brother L. Don, and her 2 young children Tamilyn and Richard David.

Many thanks, Sue Packard, for the loving and tender care you gave mom during the last months of her life and to Linda and Mike and the staff of Heartwood Hospice for your help and comfort during the last week of her life.
