Jean Ann Fletcher

1937 ~ 2023

Jean Ann Fletcher, born in Wichita, Kansas, on January 18, 1937, has gracefully concluded her earthly journey and embarked on her next grand adventure. As the second to oldest of six children, Jean's childhood in the chaotic embrace of mischievous siblings laid the foundation for a resilient spirit that would shape her inspiring life.

During high school, Jean's athletic prowess shone brightly, particularly in her love for swimming and diving. This passion ignited her desire to become a lifeguard, a testament to her innate drive to help others. Her dreams, however, led her down a different path, one paved with the compassionate calling to become a nurse. In the face of a well-intentioned offer from her father to support her education as a secretary, Jean, with her characteristic headstrong nature, turned down the offer. She chose to pursue her lifelong dream of nursing, enrolling at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was there that fate intervened, and she met the love of her life, a tall and handsome beanpole named Ronald Eugene Fletcher.

Their love story unfolded, but soon, Jean faced a pivotal decision, rooted in her commitment to faith. After a deep exploration of the Book of Mormon, Jean found her spiritual path and was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints by Ronald. Their love endured the challenges, leading them to elope in secret due to the nursing school's policy against married students.

The journey of parenthood began with the arrival of Cathy, followed by Kevin, DeAnn, and Dorick. Ronald's service in the U.S. Air Force took him to Korea, leaving Jean to singlehandedly raise their four children. Their love blossomed during this separation, and upon Ronald's return, Darrin, their fifth and final child, completed their family.

For 16 years, Jean selflessly served as the Blazer Scout leader in her ward, guiding 123 young boys to achieve their Eagle Scout awards, all of which would later serve full-time missions for the LDS Church. Her dedication to the well-being of others extended to her 30-year tenure at the Primary Children's Medical Center, culminating in her retirement as the head nurse of the Intensive Care Unit in 1998.

In 2015, Jean's exceptional contributions were recognized when she was honored with the Nurse of the Year Award for the State of Utah. Her impact resonated through the presence of a multitude of colleagues, both active and retired, who came together to celebrate her well-deserved achievement.

Retirement only marked the beginning of another chapter of service for Jean and Ronald, as they embarked on missions in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. Together, they continued to spread love, compassion, and healing.

With a heart full of pride, we bid farewell to Jean as she transitions to her next chapter. Although our world dims in her absence, we find solace in knowing that beyond this mortal veil, our Father in Heaven holds her tightly and heaven shines all the brighter because of her. Jean leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering faith.

She precedes in her journey, her entire family, leaving us with the gift of more time with her beloved husband, Ronald. As we release her into the arms of our Father in Heaven, our love transcends the boundaries of time and space. Until we meet again on the other side, we carry the torch of her memory in our hearts.

We love you, Mom. Rest in eternal peace, and we’ll soon be together again.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the Willow Creek 3rd Ward, 2400 East Alta Canyon Drive, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:30 -10:30 am prior to services at the church. If you would like to watch the recorded services, please click on the blue “Watch Services” button above.

An angel slipped away to a far better place. She was held in the highest esteem by our family, especially
by our sons Mark, Shane and Ryan...all three coached to Eagle Scout. Linda loved camping with her at girl's camp where her happy, caring nature made it fun for all. Such a wonderful influence. Great memories of
the Fletcher family fill our hearts. We love you Ron and family.

Just wanted to send my love to the Fletcher family. You've all been so kind and like extended family to ours. I've always appreciated that.

Jean Ann is such a fun lady. I remember all the time she and Mom would let me come along to the older boys scout camps, and then later when it was my age group. I really looked forward to those every year. She made them free of worries and drama. Everyone always ended up having a great experience.

She also is a great skilled blanket maker. I still have the blanket she made and use it all the time. Has held up as looks great after 30+ years! Amazing!

I know she and my mom Rosemary had a great friendship over these many years. It's nice to think of all the great times I'm sure they had over that time along with the Fletcher clan.

Thanks again, Jean Ann, for being such a great example of kindness and generosity with your time and talents. Love you! ❤️
