  • Jeanette Peterson passed away peacefully with family by her side the evening of October 12, 2021 in Salt Lake City after a long rich life. Jeanette was born in Salt Lake City Utah to Helen Catherine Bryan and George Raymond Manwaring, on January 16, 1938. Jeanette grew up with her two loved sisters Connie and Kay, on Navajo Street and 4th South in Salt Lake City. She attended Edison Elementary and Jordan Junior High and graduated from West High School in 1956. While attending Salt Lake Technical College’s Nursing Program Jeanette met a young man Richard Leroy Peterson working on an electronics degree. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 15, 1960.

After graduating and earning her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree, Jeanette worked at LDS Hospital, where she would return and work part time at various times later in life while raising her children. Jeanette loved her two daughters and two sons and was a dedicated mother. She took great care of the entire family and enjoyed the role of being a mom. Jeanette, with the rest of the family, kept flower and vegetable gardens at their home on Post Street not far from her parents’ home on Navajo. The bounty was often shared with the surrounding neighbors, tomatoes, pepper, squash and zucchini. She bottled many varieties of fruits, vegetables, jams and jellies. She made the best grape jelly around from the concord grapes grown in the backyard. She would bake and it was always a treat to enter the house with the wonderful smell of freshly baked bread. One loaf was usually devoured within minutes, more if she left her guard down.

Jeanette loved her family and enjoyed vacation time with them. Those vacations included trips to many of the National Parks in the west, Yellowstone, Disneyland, World’s Fair, annual camping trips to Bear Lake and the canyons and camp grounds all around the state of Utah. After their children were grown Jeanette and Richard enjoyed site-seeing adventures around the western US to visit many National Parks and Monuments.

Jeanette loved to draw and paint. She returned to Salt Lake Community College later in life to take art classes of all types to expand her talents. She loved having pets and inspite of allergies had many dogs and cats over the years. She missed her cats very much when she moved to assisted living earlier this year.

Jeanette was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities, this included Sunday School and Primary teacher, many roles within the Relief Society, home making coordinator, compassionate service leader and she faithfully served as a visiting teacher.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, and daughter-in-law Valerie and is survived by, her sisters Connie Wright and Kay Riche, children Gwen (Gary) Schwarz, Scott Peterson, Bryan (Ann) Peterson, Shelly (Earl) Boyce, grandchildren Carly Golden, Ayden (Kayla) Jensen, Talon (Katelyn) Peterson, Kamree Peterson, Zaily (Agustin) Peterson, Whitney (Sam) Watson, Brianna (Levi) Waldron, Kristine Peterson, Sierra Peterson, Milena Boyce, Kyli Boyce, and great-grandchildren EllieMay Golden, Henry Watson, EmmaRay Peterson, Makenna Jensen, Niko Yepez, Ivie Peterson and Eleanor Watson.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Harmony Hills Senior Living Midvale, Capitol Hills Memory Care, and Suncrest Hospice in Salt Lake City for the excellent care given to their mother over the last months of her life. We also like to thank the personnel of Salt Lake City Fire Station #6 and neighbors on Post Street for their friendship and care in watching out for Jeanette and Richard over the last few years.

Services are to be held at the 26th Ward Chapel at 1145 West 500 South Salt Lake City Utah 84104 on November 1, 2021 at 11:00 am.
