Jeanette Freeman Bender

1924 ~ 2021

Jeanette Freeman Bender passed away at her home in Sandy in the early hours of Sunday, January 3 after having a stroke just before Christmas.

Jeanette Lowien Freeman Bender – born on September 12, 1924 in Oak Harbor, Ohio to Grace and Edward Lowien – moved shortly to Fremont, Ohio, where she would spend the next fifteen years. She then moved to Bowling Green, Ohio where she graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1942. After graduation, she moved to Toledo, Ohio where she became a Savings Teller in a prominent bank.

In 1948 she married Robert Freeman and moved to Long Beach, California where her two children Alan L. and Kim E. Freeman were born. Her husband Robert Freeman passed away in November 1962. Subsequently Jeanette married Alvin F. Bender in March 1967 and continued to reside in California.

Jeanette worked for twenty rewarding years as a School Office Manager in the Ocean View School District of Huntington Beach, California. Upon retiring she and husband Alvin moved to Utah to be near her daughter Kim Kern, her husband Allan, and grandchildren Hanna and Jackson.

In her later years, Jeanette enjoyed participating in various activities at the Hilltop United Methodist Church. She especially enjoyed singing with the Silver Songbirds at various senior centers and nursing facilities around Sandy.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband Alvin, stepson Larry Bender, and daughter Kim Kern, who lost her life in an aviation accident near New Delhi, India in 1996. She is survived by her son Alan Freeman and grandchildren Hanna Freeman and Jackson Kern.
