Jeannette Rossberg Hewlett

1960 ~ 2023

Obituary Photo for Jeannette Rossberg Hewlett < >

In the early morning hours of November 8, 2023, our mom, wife, Gigi (grandma), daughter, aunt, sister, and friend, left this mortal life and returned home to her Heavenly Father. Jeannette fought a strong fight and succumbed to complications from Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

Jeannette was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 7, 1960, to Harold and Gail Rossberg. From an early age, Jeannette attended the Kenwood 2nd Ward in the Wilford Stake and loved the ward. She had many great friends that she enjoyed throughout her life. Jeannette attended Sherman Elementary School, Evergreen Junior High, and Olympus High School where she graduated in 1979. She served a mission to the Peru, Lima North Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She often shared stories and memories of her time in Peru and she used her gift of speaking Spanish with anyone she could. After her mission, she attended the University of Utah where she met the love of her life, Shawn Hewlett. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 21, 1984. They built their forever home in Sandy, Utah, and raised 2 children together.

Jeannette worked in many roles in her life, including as a dental assistant at a couple of great dental offices, hair bow creator, Lasting Memories hand impressions, and teacher aid at Jordan High School, all on top of being an incredible mom and supporter!

Jeannette served in almost every calling in the LDS church, but her callings in her Ward and Stake Young Women's programs, as well as a committee member at Oakcrest Girls Camp where her nickname was “Sunflower”, were her favorite. She also loved serving in multiple Young Single Adult Wards, along with Shawn, for 11 years. Through these callings, she made lifelong friends and had a major impact on the lives of many young people. In her later years, she adopted a love of serving in the Draper, Utah Temple, where she worked in the baptistry and the temple clothing area for over a decade.

Jeannette was a friend to all. Her infectious laugh, inviting hugs, and warm embrace were a welcome sight to anyone who had the privilege to get to know her. She was also competitive and loved games of all kinds, most notably Ranch Rummy at the Stewart/Hewlett Family Ranch. Jeannette has the most giving heart, giving so much love and joy to everyone in her life.

Jeannette is survived by her husband, Shawn, her children Zack (Addi) and Alicia, her mother, Gail Rossberg, and her brother, Steven Rossberg (Sid Rossberg). She is also survived by her favorite granddaughter, Harper.

Although she will be missed tremendously, we know that she is busy doing wonderful work and making a place for us to see her again! We love you, Jeannette!

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you plant your own Sunflowers and “Scatter Sunshine all along your way” as a reminder of Jeannette. We have also learned that November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, and if you would like to donate in memory of Jeannette, please head here: https://pancan.org

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 18th at 11:00 am, at the Sandy Granite South Stake Center, 2130 E 10000 S, Sandy, Utah. Viewings will be held Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road (10600 S) in Sandy and Saturday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to services at the Stake Center. Interment will be at the Woodland Cemetery after the funeral.

Noticia muy triste. Recuerdo haber servido en la misma Zona que ella en la Misión Perú Lima Norte. Creo que fue en Chimbote si no me equivoco. Mi más sentido pésame y oraciones para su familia.

How can this be? Jeanette was so young! Margie let us know and we are so sad. We reconnected with Jeanette a few years back through FamilySearch (years after our 19 years in Sandy) and it was so fun to talk and laugh together again! Our hearts goes out to you--Shawn and Zach and Alicia! Hugs and tender thoughts to you!

I met Jeannette on a random trip with my husband. Shawn and my husband bonded quickly under, I’ll say odd circumstances. We only spent a couple days in person but became Facebook friends since the trip in 2018. The tribute is amazing. I knew she was a wonderful person but because she was so humble I had no idea of the good she selfishly did. I was so shocked to read of her passing. Sending love and light and prayers for her family.

Sorry for your loss of one of the best! Erik sent the notice and of course we were saddened for you and your family. We live in Dallas and have lost contact with so many friends in Sandy. We are here with Anna-Lise and Britta and their nine kids bit Granite 9th will be in our Hearst for ever. You were especially significant in that time. May God give you peace in your sadness

- Les and Holly Forslund

Our hearts are so heavy with Jeannette gone from our lives for a time. We have so many wonderful memories of family times spent with you all. Jeannette made everything so fun and perfect. She made us laugh and lightened our hearts.
Shawn, Zach and Alicia we can only imagine the hole in your hearts and emptiness you are feeling right now. We hurt thinking of your suffering and continually pray for your comfort and peace. Remember we are here for you at any time.
Jeannette, until we meet you again on the other side... we will continue to love you to the moon and back.

Siento mucho su perdida. Fue mi mejor compañera en la misión norte, le puse su nombre a mi hija mayor, por ser una excelente compañera en la misión, muy alegre y amorosa. Que el Señor de consuelo a su esposo, hijos y demás familiares.

Oh, Barbie….You, Shawn and your incredible kids are the life blood of the ward. Your great laugh and your involvement in so many things will be missed. We’ve watched your family from up the street, from Australia and now from Southern Utah for going on 36 years. Bless your heart for the example you have been to me over all of these years. Rest well….at least for a little while…there’s still so much to do!!!! Love you, Sweetie.

I am in tears right now thinking of the impact that you and Jeannette have had on our children! You made the temple a place of refuge for them. They love and adore you both! The influence and spirit you have shared as a couple has had a wide reaching effect on all the youth of our Stake. My kids believe that you love them the most but I know that many others feel the same way. Jeannette was a special one and we all feel deeply saddened by your loss. We love you Shawn and we are praying for you and your family❤️

- Tammy Covey

We’re so sorry to hear about Jeannette😢. She was the gal that brought so much love, energy, warmth and humor wherever she went. I had the fun of meeting Jeannette and serving with her in the church sorority at the U a zillion years ago and was later so fortunate to reconnect in the Pioneer Stake Singles where she made such a difference!
God bless you Shawn and your family.

Shawn, I have such a pain in my heart knowing that Jeannette is gone. I am so very sorry that you have lost your sweetheart, the kids their mother and grandmother. What a void she leaves. Jeannette was always so much fun, I loved it when she was able to help us in the office. so kind and thoughtful, very generous with her time and love. So important for you to gather as a family and give comfort to each other, your faith sustaining you, blessings for you all. Warmest regards, Shelley

My sincere condolence to Jeanette's wonderful family! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time but know our loving Jeannette is in a better place!

Jeanette was one of my very best besties in High School and part of my college years. When I think back on those days, Jeanette's fun smile and laughter is always right there. We shared many wonderful times together. I will always admire her bigger than life personality, energy, creativity, love for the gospel. And of course, I will never forget our "charity donut runs" and rides down State Street. She put her own unique shining and loving mark on this world! I will always get a warm smile and little laughs when I think about my dear friend. God speed my friend.

- Kelly McAleer

Dear Shawn and Family. Sharon and I express our deepest love and thoughtfulness at the passing Jeannette. I so much enjoyed our weekly interactions in the House of the Lord and her joy and kindness to so many around her. She lit up the room with her love. Blessings to you and your family.

- Jan and Sharon Christensen

Hermana Rossberg was a wonderful sister missionary! She touched the lives of so many people in Peru including members and nonmembers of our church, as well as all the missionaries who were blessed to served with her in northern Peru. She really was a sunshine of God’s light. I’ll plant sunflowers next summer in my garden to remember an amazing friend and loyal servant of our Heavenly Father. You’ll be miss my dear friend!

- Luis Ziegner

Jeannette was truly the kindest person you could ever meet! She was contagiously joyful and someone who always made you feel special and loved!!! We will deeply miss her presence with us!!! She was always a rock that we all relied upon and looked up to. We’ll plant a huge garden full of sunflowers to honor her!!! Sending all our love and prayers for you and your beautiful kids!!! Xoxoxo

I’m so sorry to hear of Jeannette’s passing. I really enjoyed working with her at the Family Search Center. She was always so nice and patient with the patrons and had such a great sense of humor. She was always smiling and caring about people. I will really miss seeing her there.

I first met Jeanette at BYU when I moved into The Elms by myself for a Spring Term. I was lucky to have her as one of my roommates and she was so easy to make friends with. Fast forward a few years and we found ourselves in the same stake in Sandy, Utah. She always made me smile when we crossed paths and I only have to close my eyes and I can hear her infectious laugh. I know she will be a "favorite" missionary/ministering angel on the other side among those who will meet her. And here, on earth, her light will continue to glow among all she shared her love and smiles with. You will be missed, Jeannette!

- Marci Nilsson

We will miss a great neighbor and friend, Jeannette and think of her each time we pass by her home. She was a great lady and such a positive example for us to follow.

- Lanning and Gail Porter

I'm grateful for Jeannette's friendship and her sunshine spilling over into my life. I also appreciate Jeannette and Shawn opening their home for JHS SPED Christmas parties. They are a great team and brought light into all of our gatherings.

Love you, my friend.

Could there be a better couple? Shawn & Jeannette have been my example as long as I can remember.

I am so grateful I was able to give her a kiss goodbye after singing her favorite Alvin & The Chipmunks at her bedside while holding back the tears, after hugging Zack, Alicia, and Shawn.

When I began my career, she demanded I add Snow White, the Raptor, and the Chipmunks to my performances, as I didn't feel they made sense to put in...yet she insisted I had to. She is the reason anyone has ever heard "My 8-Foot Tall Doll (The Chewbaaca Song)", and lined up the most significant gigs that showcased my raw ability with no proven skillset, and she was my biggest cheerleader, and the best laugher in the audience. I'll never forget her singing as loud as possible when I played "Always a Woman to Me" by Billy Joel once the bridge hit "Ooooh, she takes care of herself, she can wait if she wants, she's ahead of her time...."

She and her husband, Shawn Hewlett invested actual money in my career at a time when I was going for it in Vegas, and they believed I could make it - this was the only business loan I've ever taken.

Our family is devastated she is gone, but so thankful the pain is gone. What a magnificent life she lived, loved, and spread joy all around.

We will miss you Aunt Jeannette, and thank you for believing in me, supporting my dreams, and being the example of what a happy marriage and family is.
