  • In Loving Memory we say goodbye to Jeneanne Kay Baxter Hanney who passed away August 16, 2021 at age 83 in Salt Lake City. She was Born August 28, 1937 in Le Grande, Oregon to Rex Bowthorpe and Lois Cline Baxter. After meeting Larry Lee Hanney at a Church activity they then dated and were married on September 4, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a devoted and life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She held many callings in the Church but one of her favorite calling was playing the piano in primary.

She was an avid reader, sometimes reading more than one book a day and even reading one book several times. She also loved sewing, quilting, cross-stitching, crocheting, knitting, and many other crafts. She always put in an effort to make a quilt for every grandchild and one for every couple when they got married. She also enjoyed playing the piano and the organ.

Jeneanne had an outgoing personality and loved to sit and chit chat for hours with friends and family or anyone else who happened to walk by. Her home was always welcoming and became a gathering place for all the neighborhood kids or anyone who needed a place to stay. She was also a voracious reader and collected and gave away books by the scores throughout her life. As much as anything, she was proud of being a mom, a grandma, a sister, and a daughter.
Survived by her children Steven (Meghan), Kenneth, Phillip (Taunya), Debbie (Russell) Bridge, Elsa Dudley (daughter-in-law), Ali Soto (son-in-law), 15 grandchildren, and two siblings Bill Baxter, Mary Ellen (Jim) Bruner. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, her parents, her three sisters Mary Elizabeth, Margaret Beth, and recently Sylvia Dee, her brother Cline, her son Russell, and her daughter Patricia Soto-McKinnon.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple. Debbie so sorry in your loss of your Mother. I remember when I lost my Mother - it hit hard (totally unexpected) - but I had to remember all the times I loved with her and do to this day. Smile and remember the fun times Deb it helps with the hurt. Love, Debbie Cardin

I am so sorry to hear of Jeneanne’s passing. The thing that always made the biggest impression for me was the ability she had to make everyone feel like they were part of her family. She made you feel instantly at ease and comfortable. I have thought of her often and am grateful to have known her. Love to everybody ❤️

Jeneanne was my friend at Horace Mann Junior High in Salt Lake City. I met her when she was sitting alone eating lunch by herself. I felt sorry for her and left my friends to sit by her My "friends" said, if you go sit by her, you can't sit by us anymore. So I got up and sat by Jeneanne anyway. I enjoyed her so much. She invited me into her home quite often, (it was on the way that I walked to my home) . I felt the Spirit there, though I wasn't sure what it was. I just felt warm and welcomed by both her mom and dad. I enjoyed all her siblings as well Jeneanne was the one who introduced me to seminary which was held after school. I'm not sure if this was in my 7th or 8th grade. But she became my best friend until I moved at the end of my 8th grade. .
