Jeremy Robert Martin

1978 ~ 2023

Jeremy Robert Martin, age 45, fell victim to a homicide on December 30, 2023. Jeremy was born in Salt Lake City, UT on October 14, 1978 to Craig and Karla Martin. He was raised in Riverton Utah. He graduated from Jordan High school and was the Captain of their Debate team, where he won several awards. He had a passion for debate, politics, snowboarding and anything peculiar. He was a loyal employee at Albertsons for many years and worked for UTA for the last nine years. He genuinely loved his job and will be missed by so many.

Jeremy was as unique as they come. He was well read and had quite the nerdy side. He was a man of facts. Some crazy, bizarre facts. As soon as he could read, he was a walking encyclopedia of insect and reptilian facts. He also had a variety of those as pets growing up. At the age of 21, he met his wife Jenny while working at Albertsons. They were married for 24 years. They shared a love for antique cars and retro things. Fishing with Jerett was his happy place. It’s where he also bonded with his nephews, and where friends became family. The kitchen is where some of his talents really shined. Jeremy loved to cook!

Jeremy’s years at UTA brought him a lot of happiness. Despite his setbacks with brain surgery and seizures these past four years, he never gave up. We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support from his UTA family. Jeremy made friends most places he went. From coworkers to regular bus riders and other people in need of a helping hand. Driving a bus is where Jeremy’s heart thrived. If Heaven was in need of a bus driver, they now have the greatest one of all.

Jeremy is survived by his loving wife, Jenny Martin and their son Jerett Martin and their sweet dog, Duke, his parents Craig and Karla Martin, his sister, Emily Macdonald (Andy), his grandmother, Elaine Christensen, aunts and uncles, and nieces and nephews that he teased and adored. As well as his UTA and car club families.

Jeremy was preceded in death by his younger brother Eric Martin, grandmother, Geniel Martin, grandfather, Elmo Roylance Martin, grandfather Robert E Christensen, uncle, Roger Martin, and uncle, David Littlefield.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, January 11, 2024at Larkin Mortuary in Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, UT. A viewing will be held from 1:00 – 1:45pm. Interment at Riverton City Cemetery

I am a former student who took the 21 bus to the University of Utah for a while. I heard about this from a friend, and I just wanted to say that Jeremy was a great bus driver, always positive and chipper, and stood out to me and my friends. We were all saddened when we heard the news. Rest in peace.

I worked with Jeremy for a few years, but he made a lasting impression. His time here was too brief but he lived his life fully on his terms. He had a lot of great and unique qualities and we're all at a great loss now. My condolenses to his family for this difficult time.

- Anthony

Jenny and Jerett, our hearts are so very saddened at this time. Jeremy was a unique person, and his quirky personality shined through his handsome eyes. We’ll forever think of him when we smell meat being smoked, since he was so adept at smoking meat in his smoker in your backyard! You and your whole family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of Jeremy. He was one of my very favorite bus drivers. He always made sure I got where I needed to go. He gave away Halloween candy as a treat the week before Halloween. I saw him on Friday, December 29th on his route 21. He took time out to help someone on the bus that was not from Utah to get where was going. His route was late of because he stopped to help this person. He will be GREATLY missed.

To Jeremy’s family,

We are absolutely heartbroken to read this horrible news! Even though we have not seen Jeremy since the Albertson days, (as my all time favorite barista), he is often on our minds. Whenever I see an orange car, or a great mustache, Jeremy leaps to mind.
We had great conversations! The kind that left us Inspired and feeling like our IQ score raised, just speaking to him.

Please know we are keeping you in our prayers for peace and healing.

Oh my heart just breaks for Jenny and Jerrit. I am so so sorry for the loss of Jeremy. He was a little crazy a bit goofy at times but he was sure an awesome person to know and talk to. I am so glad to have had the honor of knowing him. When he found out I was a new driver he made it a point to introduce himself and welcome me to the UTA family. We drove the route 21 at the same time. Jenny I have already told you but I will say it again, I love ya my friend and prayers to you and all the family.

I am sorry for your loss. I worked with him at UTA. When I first started at UTA I got to know him when he was my LPI trainer. One memory I will never forget, was during a big UTA meeting and I walked in the room not knowing anyone because I was new. Jeremy was there and called me over and invited me to sit at the table with him and introduced me to everyone else. That small act of kindness meant everything to me. He would also always said hi and asked how I was doing at UTA. He is such a great guy and will be missed.

- Holly Gutke

Hi, I am a student at the University of Utah. Everyone remembers his energy and smile, so sorry for your guy's loss. I truly appreciated his work and his energy. He always brought happiness to people. Someone so special can never be forgotten.

We are so sorry that Jeremy has been taken from you in such an untimely and senseless manner, and hope that you will find comfort from neighbors and friends, and a loving Father in Heaven.
The obituary was beautifully written and brought back fond memories of Jeremy. You are in our prayers.

To the Martin Family,
When I started UTA Jeremy was one of my LPIs. The day before I met Jeremy I felt the day went horribly wrong and when I started with Jeremy I thought it was a continuation of my bad experience. I couldn't have been more wrong. He was a great LPI, and that day has been burned into my memory ever since. I wouldn't consider myself a friend to him but every time we met, we would always have a great conversation of which I will now miss. I Felt he was genuinely interested in the way that I progressed in the company and for the stuff he taught me I'm forever in his debt. He was a great man.
Rest easy Jeremy, and hope Jenny and the Martin family find closure during this difficult time.

- Steve Engelhaupt

Our hugs, love and prayers to you and your family. So sorry for your loss.

I remember the first day I met Jeremy on the 21 bus. I had already had a long day and just wanted to ride peacefully. He walked up to me and began a conversation and made me laugh. Ever since then, he became my favorite driver. I would see the 21 pass and think, 'I wonder if that's Jeremy', or I would hear a honk from the 21 and think, 'oh, that's for sure Jeremy!' He always called me by my name and even noticed when I changed my hair!

I still can't believe he's no longer with us. My heart breaks for his family and all the friends he made and people he helped on the UTA including me. I cry tears of joy that he's in a much better place, but many tears of sadness because he will be greatly missed and the 21 will never be the same without him.

Most favoritetsst bus driver ever.
He caught our attention as a realtor great and really different. We loved him in seconds. I've never seen a bus driver stop and ask peeps if they needed a ride. It use to annoy me but after awhile we realized he just could not help himself from helping with that bus. He truly impacted me and my wife . We are soooo sad and are hearts go out to u and him. He will be missed and remembered by us .
