Jerry M Thompson

Jerry passed away peacefully early in the morning of 27 August 2026 at his home. Jerry was born 9 January 1956 in Bemidji Minnesota to Gerald and Dora Thompson. Jerry was a mirror image twin.

Jerry served in the United States Navy on the PG 100, the Douglas. He was married and divorced twice. Both were terribly sad on him. But on 24 November 2003 Jerry married what he would frequently call the love of his life, Elizabeth Alice Atkinson in Lander Wyoming. Boyd and Carolyn were our witnesses. We were later sealed in the Nauvoo Temple.

Jerry worked 32 and a half years for the University of Utah. But in August 2022 he had a CT scan and was operated on 14 December 2022, and Cancer was found. They removed all they could. Jerry said he believed he had that tumor for most of his adult life. He fought bravely to live.

Lucas Atkinson was by Jerry’s side throughout the rest of his life. He had several visitors, and even though he struggled to communicate, he loved their visits. We greatly appreciate all that Hospice did to keep Jerry comfortable during this time. There are so many people to thank, we hope they know who they are.

Jerry is survived his wife, and his son, Lucas Atkinson and by ALL who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1401 West 700 South, Salt Lake City on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Viewings will be 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church, and on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Jerry will be laid to rest at Memorial Redwood Cemetery.
