Billy Louis Roth

1923 ~ 2014

Billy Louis Roth, 91, passed away November 5, at home in Herriman, Utah, in the care of his devoted wife and family. He was born September 12, 1923 in Dickson, Tennessee to Lewis Walker Roth and Thelma Suggs Roth.

Billy grew up during the Great Depression where he learned to work hard and contribute to family. He has practiced these qualities throughout his life.

Billy loved to work with his hands, learning carpentry skills building houses after WWII with his father. He also was an avid mechanic with an enthusiasm for restoring Ford Model T's. He used these skills to serve his family as well as to serve others. He taught these skills to his 5 sons as they grew up.

A veteran of the US Army Air Corps and US Air Force, he was an engineer gunner on a B-17 in WWII and a B-26 in the Korean War. He was decorated 9 times and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross Award. He was proud to serve the land he loved.

Billy married Loria Evelyn Dickens June 2, 1951 in Elizabeth City, NC. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 2, 1968.

After retiring from TVA, 35 yrs, and Iowa Electric, 11 yrs, he and Loria served a 2 year Mission in Nauvoo, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Loria and their five sons; Russell Allen, William Lewis "Bubba" (Peggy), Paul Wesley (Maggie), Michael Lee (Tonya) and David Christian (Katy). He is also survived by his sister Martha Runions, 18 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Billy's family expresses their gratitude to Brighton Hospice, especially Rashelle Van Wagoner, for their support and tender care.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Summit Ridge Ward Chapel, 14868 Juniper Crest Rd, Herriman, UT A viewing will be held from 9:00-10:30am prior to services at the Ward.

Interment will occur at the Herriman City Cemetery with full military honors.
