David Brian Sabin

1957 ~ 2018

David Brian Sabin, a man with infinite love and an infectious smile, unexpectedly left this life on October 31st, 2018. He was known as David only to those who did not know him, although he was never surrounded by strangers because everyone would shortly become his friend. Born on July 9th, 1957 to Robert and Kathleen Sabin and was raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He would always remember the desert and Organ mountains as his home. After graduating from high school, Brian attended college at Brigham Young University on a full ride scholarship which he always jokingly recalled was soon lost due to a few distractions, namely girls and a car. After serving a church mission in Norway for two years, he returned to BYU where he met his lifelong companion and mother of five children, Judy. After being married for time and all eternity in August of 1981 in the Seattle, Washington Temple, he graduated with a degree in Geology from BYU in December of 1982. Brian started his career in the oil industry by working for Marathon Oil. Brian, with his constant desire to learn more, decided to get his master's in Geophysics, and did so in 1988. Brian continued his work in the oil industry by accepting a job with Mobil Oil which later transitioned to ExxonMobil. Brian worked and traveled to all but one continent through ExxonMobil until he retired in 2017.

Brian loved all sorts of projects, and through this love, he started a lawnmower repair business. Through this business, he taught his children the value of hard work and was able to save up money to buy the property he called home in Tomball, Texas. After his retirement, Brian continued his love of service through his work with United Way. Brian had an uncanny way of knowing exactly how to help people, and never rested until others were taken care of.

Brian was a man of God and a man of service. He served lovingly and unconditionally. He committed his life to working with youth in the Church. For over thirty years he spent countless hours mentoring and guiding young men through the challenges of life to become successful, productive, and worthy men. Even outside of church he found opportunities to serve and bless the lives of as many people as he possibly could. He was gifted with a clear intuition that helped him identify individuals in need of assistance. There was never a need he could not meet.

Brian loved to learn and those things he learned were passed down to anybody willing to lend an ear. He had a passion for teaching and was honored with many awards from various organizations, yet his humility never wavered.

The only person he did not take time for was himself. He loved his family fiercely and raised five children with his forever bride, Judy. Brian became a father, a role he loved, for the first time in November of 1982, when his first son, Erik was born. He had one daughter, Jalayna, and three more boys, Devin, Nathan, and Dallin. He strived to teach his children Christ-like love and compassion.

Brian loved being a grandparent, and his whole face would light up whenever he saw his grandchildren. He became a grandpa April of 2006 to his first twin grandsons, Kyle and Caleb. In the following years, he would be blessed with the birth of six more grandchildren, Brayden, Caitlin, Kinzie, Brinley, Calvin, and Lani Jr. He was so excited to meet the newest addition in April of 2019.

Through his travels across the world and his adventures here at home, he undoubtedly touched the hearts and brightened the lives of countless individuals and he will be missed by all.

Brian is preceded in death by Kathleen Sabin (Mother), Scott Sabin (Brother), Kyle Hammer (Grandson), Caleb Hammer (Grandson), and Lani Sabin Jr. (Granddaughter).

Brian is survived by his loving wife Judy Sabin, his five wonderful children Erik (Lani) Sabin, Jalayna (Justin) Hammer , Devin (Caitlin) Sabin, Nathan (Emily) Sabin, Dallin Sabin, his father Robert J Sabin, his siblings Debbie (Layne) Bennion, Rob (Becky) Sabin, Greg (Lynette) Sabin, his grandchildren Brayden Hammer, Caitlin Hammer, Kinzie Hammer, Brinley Hammer, and Calvin Sabin, and by the countless lives that he touched.
