Joan Jean Ostling, age 86 passed away in Salt Lake City, UT on December 10th, 2020, with her son by her side. She is survived by her son Erik Ostling (Nicole Suchey), and her beloved grandchildren Ethan and Astrid. Born on October 7th 1934 in Roseburg OR, she lived in Washington DC, Eugene OR, Juneau AK, and Salt Lake City, UT. She lived a full, joyful life and had many friends. Her bright smile and green eyes lit up the room. Joan, “Jo” to her friends, was an accomplished pianist, playing for churches and stage productions throughout her life. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the Eugene Opera chorus. Joan proudly worked as a Registered Nurse in Eugene and Juneau. She put others before herself and would drop everything to care for someone in need. Frugal in her own life, she was generous to others. An avid reader and letter writer, she continued to learn and grow throughout her life. Auntie Jo loved her nieces, nephews, and their families. She will be welcomed in heaven by family and many friends. Her faith in God sustained her in times of difficulty and joy and guided her life.
A graveside service will be held for family December 22 at the Salt Lake Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held in late Spring.
