Relaxed dress code/civvies/union formal. If you shared his love for music, wear your favorite band shirt. If you were in the Marines with him, wear a Marines shirt/sweatshirt, if it still fits. I can hear him now asking “you think I could wear jeans?” The answer is yes, please wear jeans. Most fire personnel will be wearing their Class A uniforms with uncomfortable shoes.
Suggested footwear for all others: Chucks, Vans, or Hey Dudes (only if you already own them — no need to buy anything new).
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in his name to your favorite animal rescue, or to our favorite dog rescue, Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas, Donate – Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas (Venmo: @Retrieverrescuelv), the PFFU Charitable Foundation which is a firefighter support network (PO Box 6267, Ogden UT 84402), or the Donor Connect Foundation (https://www.dcfoundation.life).

Uncle Johnny was everyone’s favorite (don’t worry. my other uncles know it haha). Every family gathering, Johnny and Andrea would always make sure to go up to every single person and show them love. Johnny would come over with the biggest smile on his face. He was always excited to see me. He made me feel special. He would give the best hugs, say, “Hey Jace what’s up dude!”, and he would put on a really cool, rockstar voice and act like a homie with me.
When I would go over to his house, I always floated to the basement. This is where he had all his guitars. I started learning guitar as an adult and I was super excited to show uncle Johnny some of the few songs I had memorized: “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd, “Black Bird” by the Beetles, and “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica. When I showed him, he would grab a guitar and sit with me and play with me. He would let me use his 12-string guitar and would show me how to do some cool tricks. The songs I had memorized…he already knew how to play every single one.
It was so cool seeing that he already knew how to play the songs I loved so much. He would show off a bit and I would just admire him. He really made me feel good about myself in those moments where we bonded over our shared love for music.
Johnny is someone I’ve always looked up to. I feel so lucky that I’ve had him as an uncle and that I was able to grow up with such a cool example in my life. I’ll always wanna be like Johnny. I wanna make people feel good about themselves the way he did for me and everyone else I saw him interact with.
He is a real gem.
I love you, Uncle Johnny. Thank you for showing me what it’s like to truly be “cool”, to live a good life, to explore and adventure nature, to love our fur babies, to be a hero for anyone in need, to have enough room in your heart for everyone, to make amazing salsa, and much more.
It's hard to put into words the passing of a close friend and brother that exemplify the goodness and positive energy we all need in this world. Johnny lifted people's spirits and was a giver to all of us even the strangers within our community. You will be immensely missed and there will be a void in our world without you! Always remembered but never forgotten! Johnny occupies a special space in my heart that will remain forever. I love you and will greatly miss you my friend, my brother, my confidant and hero.
Much love and respect,
Tilly ✊🏻❤️ 🌹
Andrea,
There are no words that can ease your pain or express how deeply sorry we are.
Johnny was such a wonderful person and always had such a positive energy. We’ll never forget that great smile and big hug he had for us every time we saw him.
The world has lost a great man.
Sending you prayers, strength and love through this most difficult time.
We Love You.
Uncle Anthony and Aunt Judy.
I first met Johnny and Andrea 23 years ago when I began dating Andrea and Angie's mom. I truly don't think I've ever met anyone nicer than Johnny. Without exception, he was always super friendly and very kind. I know that he made a very positive impression to those he met for the first time, all of his extended family, close family, his colleagues and to those he helped while working with the Salt Lake Fire Department. I am going to miss Johnny very much and will cherish the memories. I will forever be grateful for his service to our country and to the greater Salt Lake area as a paramedic and fireman.
