John Edward Twitchell passed away on an epic adventure bike ride on September 29, 2023.

John died doing what he loved most, surrounded by some of his favorite people, The Parley’s Canyon Riders. Known as the PCR’s.
He was born on June 20, 1955, in Cedar City, Utah. Son of Gordon and Geniel Twitchell. He was the husband of Merriann Murphy Twitchell and the father of Paige Twitchell. Brother of Vivian, David, and Hans Twitchell.

John was a man of many talents and hobbies. He loved sailing. Whether it be racing to Cabo or on the Great Salt Lake, he loved being on the water. He was a master carpenter. Being in the car with him meant him pointing out all the buildings he worked on.
He loved cycling and skiing at his favorite resort, Snowbird. John loved being in nature and knew the Utah landscape like the back of his hand. He loved camping in the mountains, biking the white rim trail, and scuba diving in the coral reefs. If it’s an outdoor activity, you can bet he tried it and he was good at it.

John was a daredevil. One summer after they had finished paving Suncrest, he and his best friend had the idea to rollerblade down the mountain before it was open to traffic. He came home with a “giant raspberry bruise” as he would call it.

Twitch, or JT as known by many, had a heart of gold and was always there to help. Especially if you had a flat tire or a computer problem. John could fix anything, solve any math problem, and ski any black diamond.

We will always look for him in nature – on deep powder days, and in the aspens. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

We love you, John. Wait for me at B Gate.

So sorry to hear of his passing. I was with him roller blading Suncrest. Extreme skiing with him before it was a thing. Mountain biking the Slick rock trail on our Schwinns before it was a thing. Sailing our catamarans on every lake in all kinds of weather. In the spring, we would do a gentleman's triathalon when he had his Catalina 30 at the lake. 9 holes of golf, 4 or 5 trams at Snowbird, finishing with sailing at the GSL. He was my best friend for most of my adult life, and I will miss him sorely. Love you John, and love you Merrianne...

When my brother loses his best friend, I feel the sadness of this loss vicariously. I love that Twitch and Barry shared so many adventures, times, and stages of their friendship for life. A great person has left love and memories trailing after him. My condolences to his wife and daughter, family and friends.

So sorry for your loss. John was/is a special man. When John set his sights on something he was like a dog with a bone. He wouldn't quit until he finished it to HIS satisfaction. He truly will missed.

Marriann,
Tragic loss. You should have had many more adventures with John. We remember him from many beach camps as perpetually helpful, cheerful and a daring Hobie Cat storm sailor.
