JOHN F. NYE - Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather passed away at home on December 8, 2021, from complications of Parkinsons Disease and Prostate Cancer. He was born June 10, 1934, in Casper, Natrona County, Wyoming to Ira Joseph and Ida Belle Barnes Nye.
John was educated at Utah State University where he played football and received his Civil Engineering degree. He was a Korean War Veteran. John was employed by UDOT for 38 years, retiring in 1999 following a successful career. He was married to Novella Nicholson, later divorced. He later married Marilyn Rueckert Petersen on August 21, 1976, later being sealed in the Jordan River Temple on May 17, 1994.
Survived by: his wife Marilyn, Children: Mitch Nye, Greg (Karen) Nye, Mark (Elizabeth) Nye, Ira (Ann) Nye, Step-children: Mark (Debbie) Petersen, Lori (Eddie) Scow; 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Preceded in death by parents, 1 sister, 3 brothers and 1 granddaughter.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy, Utah, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at the Mt. Jordan 3rd Ward Chapel, 8950 South 400 East, Sandy, Utah beginning at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held at the chapel prior to the funeral services beginning at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I worked with John at UDOT years back. John was a great leader and mentor for many people at UDOT. I surely learned a lot from him.

John was a great, kind and gentle man and loved by all who knew him. My love and prayers are with his sweet wife, Marilyn, and family! He will truly be missed ❤️
We were very sadden and heartbroken to hear the passing of such a great gentile man. Soft spoken, kind, interested in what you had to say, good listener and a very good friend. Mark, Holly and I missed not seeing John and Marylin at the 2020 RNCF. Mark,may blessings and our prayers go out to you and Marylin and peace bless your hearts for knowing a great soul that touched many.

It has been a great honor to know John and work with him over the past several years . I highly respected his counsel as both a member of the Ralph Nye Charitable Trust, and as a partner in family business. John was a unbelievable listener and never inserted himself unless necessary. When he spoke he had something important to say but he was never forceful or condescending. I will miss him greatly. My most sincere condolences for his wonderful family.
