Our beloved older brother John Henry Marshall, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19.2026 at the age of 65. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on February 9, 1961, to John Henry Marshall Sr. and Letitia Pearl Patterson Marshall. John attended school in New York State’s Hudson River Valley and grew up in the Catskill Mountains. He graduated from Kingston High School in Kingston, New York. He was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America and helped with the Hill Cumorah Pageant each year. He earned two bachelor's degrees, one at LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the other at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. John served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bellevue, Washington. He loved our Savior Jesus Christ and the scripture John 4:19, “ We love him, because he first loved us.” John had a good eye for the finer things in life and loved his Adidas sneakers, Levi jeans, and Tom Ford glasses. He enjoyed multiple sports cars to maximum speeds and was actively involved in student government in high school and college.
John enjoyed Western and James Bond movies, watching baseball, and listening to music on the radio. He had a very high IQ and could memorize the Declaration of Independence and repeat it and other masterpieces with ease. He was an incredible chess player and made the best brownies. John lived a life of faith and honor. He was kind and overly generous. He would do little things like bring in fresh-cut roses from the yard for our widowed mom to enjoy. Despite all of John’s health issues, he was a happy person with a good work ethic. Even after losing his two full-time jobs due to being visually impaired, he found another job cleaning 4 hours a week, which he rode his bike to. The nurse and I finally had to say,” John, you've done your fair share; it's time to retire.” We are thankful John had his independence till the end. We’d like to thank his many nurses who took care of John, especially Britanie, Brock, and Michelle, as well as Tara and everyone else at A+. Ivanna, a care manager with his insurance who was a living angel more times than we can count. John’s many doctors, Michelle Palmer (primary), Dr. Adhish Agarwal, and other nephrologists on their team, the many cardiologists, and the U of U heart transplant team, Dr. Andrew Davis at Salt Lake Retina, and his brother-in-law, Dr. Jeff Mellor, for his extensive eye care. We are thankful for Bishop Briton Gardner and Bishop Jacob Frost of the Brookhaven ward (Porter Crossing Eagle Mountain Stake) and the Priest Quorum bringing John the sacrament each Sunday, the last years of his life. A special thank you to John’s nephews, Benjamin Mellor and Tyson Mellor, for being willing to live with their Uncle John and help take care of him during their church missions. You all gave John an additional 5 years of love and quality of life. John was preceded in death by his loving parents John and Letitia Marshall, his best friend and brother Neil Marshall, adored sister Linda Marshall, and beloved sister- in-law Kenna Marshall. He is survived by his brother James Marshall, brother Edward Marshall, sister Emily (Jeff) Mellor, his Uncle Edward (Frances) Patterson, and many incredible cousins, nephews, and nieces. There will be a graveside service on Saturday April 25, 2026 at 11am at the Pleasant Green Cemetery located at 9200 W. 3500 S. Magna, UT.
