1964 ~ 2025
Saturday Oct 4, 2025: 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
On the afternoon of September 7th, 2025, John Kay Miller joined our heavenly father doing what he loved: being out in the mountains, riding fast, and living his life to the fullest-- the way he wanted to.
John was born on June 29, 1964, to Sharon Kaye Christensen and Garry Tim Miller in Murray, Utah. He spent his childhood in West Valley City with his parents and eight siblings, where he learned, played, and grew for the next 19 years. He graduated from Kearns High School in 1982, and shortly after, John served abroad in Germany for the US military.
John was an incredibly hard worker. After the birth of his only daughter, Aljexi, he made it his mission to provide the best life he could for her. He worked his way up through several tiling and home-flipping businesses before taking the leap into a new field and starting his own business. John worked with Kellogg Insurance for many years, serving his community. To him, nothing was more important than making sure that everyone he worked with learned how to safely navigate the world of insurance and receive the best policy for them and their families.
John loved to travel and spent many summer months ATV riding, fishing, camping, and sightseeing across the Western United States. Some of his favorite places were those with rivers, mountains, and tall trees where he could sit in the shade and watch the clouds pass, finding peace in the beauty of God’s creation. For John, being in the middle of nowhere with hardly a bar of service was the best way to find peace.
In 2019, John met the love of his life, Lisa Lawrence. With encouragement from a mutual friend and a few dates, their love grew. Over the years, Lisa not only expanded John’s family with her own children and grandchildren but also gave him someone he could fully trust, love, and cherish.
John has now joined his grandparents, Rex and Betty Christensen and Max and Emma Miller, and watches over all his family and friends. He is survived by his loving fiancée, Lisa Lawrence; his daughter, Aljexi Olson; his three stepchildren, Ryan (Amber) Morris, Thomas Lawrence, and Jessica (Matt) Steadman; twelve grandchildren; his parents, Sharon (Gary) Lacher, Garry Tim (Kathryn) Miller; his five brothers, Richard (Melisa), Garron (Lorene), Garry (Chantel), David, and Brien (Whitney); and his three sisters, Sherilee (Kirk) Woodward, Stacie (Michael) Tingey, and Christen (Noah) Sundberg.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at The Chateau (1910 East Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah, 84092). All friends are welcome to attend from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to share memories, be with loved ones, and find healing together.
If you would like to attend services virtually, please utilize the "Watch Services" option at the top of John's obituary.
John Miller was a crucial part of my childhood. Lexi and I went to the same daycare and became fast friends. Since both of our parents were working single parents, I spent a lot of my time in the summer with Lexi and John. John Miller was a hardworking man with a kind heart and a deep love for his daughter that was reflected in everything he did. He kindly opened his home to me and demonstrated for me what it means to be a father. He was taken from us too soon, but I believe he lived the life he was given to the fullest and created a positive impact on everyone that knew him.
John was a good friend to our family. With his help Lynne was able to get an insurance policy that work for her. We are glad that we know John he will be greatly missed.
This man was such an amazing person. I am glad to of known him. Helped me in times of need. I am saddened at how fast this came to be. Expected to see him with the family again. I can only imagine the struggles of emotion and thought of being able to see him again. Patience and gratitude. My condolences
John has been our neighbor, friend and insurance guy for 27 years. We had daughters the same age and we did 4th of July barbecues with us, took the girls camping, fishing, and to church. He helped us when we remodeled our house and when my husband passed away he was there to help me. He always took good care of me with my insurance and we had many talks thru the years about kids, God, politics, I enjoyed our visits and I will miss my friend.
I am so sorry for your loss there are no words except that I know he waits at heavens gate for your arrival, until your together again you will miss him but know he is safe in the arms of Jesus now.
So sorry to see him pass - prayers for all those who we're close to him and loved him.
