John Scott Miller

1935 ~ 2023

We lost a father, friend, and grandpa on August 8, 2023, at the age of 87 years. John Scott Miller lived a life of dedication, hard work, virtue, and loyalty. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 22, 1935. He was raised by his mother, Delma Anderson until his teenage years and then with his uncle and aunt, Glen and Dorothy Anderson until adulthood. After graduation from East High School, he worked at the Villa Theater, where he met the love of his life, Joan Middaugh Miller. They married on April 27, 1956, and were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised three children.

Because of his strong work ethic, John was a successful manager for Chrysler Financial. He was transferred to different struggling branches throughout the Midwest to change their infrastructure into successful money-making departments. In the middle of his career, he changed courses to purchase a Dodge/Chrysler/Fiat car dealership in Grand Junction, Colorado. John loved his employees and taught the individuals who worked for him how to be accountable and successful.

During these years, he was busy with church callings that would take up his free time. He never complained. He felt that serving his family and the Lord were a privilege. John was a dedicated servant of the Lord and always had time to assist others, no matter what time of day or night. After he retired, he and Joan served in the San Diego California LDS Temple and then in the St. George Utah LDS Temple as temple workers.

After Joan passed, his favorite activity was getting a Nielsen’s Frozen Custard and driving up to her gravesite. We will miss him terribly, but knowing our parents are together provides us peace and comfort. Thank you, dad, for everything you gave us because we know it was your all.

John is survived by his son John (Cat) Miller, daughters Cindy Miller Thomas and Lori (Josh) Querry, his grandchildren Connor Thomas, Alexa (Reese) Mitchell, Madeline Thomas, Lauren (Jerson) Sloan, Caden Thomas, Chase Querry and Ceclie Querry, and brother Doug (Faye) Miller. He is preceded in death by his dear wife Joan, parents Scott and Delma Miller, and sister Linda Cartright.

Graveside services will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, UT. A viewing will be held from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm prior to the services. We would love to see you all there. To view previously held services please click on the "watch services" tab above.

Our family would like to thank the tender loving care that Right at Home HomeCare and Valeo Hospice provided our father.

I worked for John in the L.A.Zone office and spoke to him about 2 months ago. We tried to stay in contact every few months. When my husband and I were moving to St. George he and Joan took us to lunch. He was a hard working, kind and caring man. May he rest in peace forever with the love of his life, Joan..

John and I were peers at Chrysler Financial when we first met. Our friendship was maintained after we both retired. I know he was crushed after Joan passed as he only had eyes for her. He loved his children and grandchildren as they were often a topic of our frequent talks. He probably was lousy at showing his love but family was IT for him. I will miss him terribly.
