John Vance Lucas

1971 ~ 2024

John Vance Lucas was a local business owner, and lifelong resident of Salt Lake City, Utah.

John passed away unexpectedly on March 16, 2024 in Sandy, Utah. He is survived by his eldest son Andrew Joseph Lucas, son Austin Vance Lucas, son Jacob Vance Lucas, daughter Deja Anell Lucas, and youngest Son Cameron Vance Lucas, as well as brother Paul Vance Lucas, sister Stephanie Jasmine Lucas, brother Jesus Luis Flores, sister Pauline Martinez Lucas, brother Mathew Vance Lucas and brother Mark Vance Lucas. He is preceded in death by father Clarence Vance Lucas, mother Erma Salazar Martinez Lucas, as well as brother Patrick Ehren Lucas, and sister Derien Beth Lucas.

John Vance Lucas was born February 19th 1971 to Clarence Vance Lucas and Erma Salazar Martinez Lucas. He was raised on the west side of Salt Lake City in Poplar Grove alongside brothers Mathew and Mark Lucas, sister Pauline and nephew Mario whom he loved dearly. He often told stories about his favorite moments with all of his siblings, and close friends, and hikes with his father as well as the time he spent with cousins Frank and Maryanne Candelaria in California where he attended San Clemente High School, a memory he always spoke fondly of throughout his life. He would later return to Salt Lake City where he spent the remainder of his early years…

John was a charming and challenging man, and also a tough yet understanding person. Traits he received from a disciplined and loving upbringing. He was a true friend who made countless lifelong relationships, and loved to laugh and have a good time, which came effortlessly with his jokingly spirited nature that made him so magnetic to his close friends, family, and loved ones.

His life would significantly change in 1990 at the age of 19, when John became a father to his oldest son Andrew Lucas and would soon after welcome Austin, Jacob, Deja, and Cameron Lucas into this world for whom he would’ve given anything for. John was always a loving and determined father with an extraordinary vision for all his children, always wanting the best for each of them as they grew up and navigated lives of their own. John also had tremendous respect for his community and was passionate about making a difference within his neighborhood.

John loved to play chess and had many interests such as music, cars, cooking, cultural arts, as well as hosting and entertaining which was exemplified through the parties and events he always put together (I’m sure many of you remember a few of them over the years), our favorite being his Cancun Beach party.

John also loved being outdoors and taking trips, with plans to travel the world so he could visit the places he always dreamed of because above all else, he was a dreamer, a visionary, and a craftsman who could build just about anything by hand.

John also had a deep love for food and was always cooking up something delicious, if you were in his company. Ask anyone who had the pleasure of enjoying any of his creative dishes. This love would later on result in him starting his own business and building a food cart with a close childhood friend..
Before his passing, he was in the process of expanding his business to include two food trucks so that he could share his traditions and love for food with his kids because more than anything else, John loved his children and always said they were his biggest accomplishment in life.
He always cherished visiting with his grandkids and was proud to be grandad to his grandchildren - Azalea Scarlet Martinez, Lorenzo Vance Lucas, Analeah Isabella Montano, Santana Rosemary Martinez, Lillianna Marie Montano, Jeremiah Vance Lucas, Charlie Olivia Lucas, and Noah Vance Lucas.

John Vance Lucas was a very special, one of a kind person to each and every one of us and has made an everlasting impression on all of our lives in some way, shape, or form. As his friends and family, we are truly blessed to have been able to share so many beautiful memories with such a commendable man, father, son, brother, and friend. We will miss you dearly and remember you often with love and respect. Make it last forever and always stand your ground, in your memory.

Guestbook/Condolences

My sincere condolences to your family. John and I were high school classmates. I joined his truck club right after high school and we had a lot of great times together. I believe Andrew, who was just a baby at that time, was with us quite often cruising in our trucks, attending truck shows, and a lot of great parties. I wish I had photos during that time, but back then it just wasn’t a thing to have a camera on hand ;) yep… we were that old! I lost touch with John after the club and only recently became Facebook friends again. I wish I had a chance to visit with him as this comes as quite a shock. Sending my prayers and best wishes for you all. 🙏

I too was a high school classmate of John’s. Shortly after high school, I ran back into John and joined his car club “The Untouchables.” We had a blast cruising State Street, doing car shows and having bbq’s. Life takes us in different directions but I always considered John a friend. My sincere condolences to the family.
