  • Our Beloved Husband, Father, Brother, and Grandfather, passed away quietly in his home being attended by his loving wife, on Monday February 21st, 2022.

John W. Price was born March 24th, 1951, to John Lloyd and Lucy Perkins Price and was the sixth of eight children, and the youngest of the three brothers. John served a faithful mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Washington D.C. area. He married Sue Ann Huntington December 21st, 1973 in the Provo, Utah Temple. Their marriage produced four rambunctious boys who helped keep their property value from appreciating too rapidly. John was an active, loyal member of the church every day of his life. He was a stalwart member, serving in whatever capacity he was called. If you ever had the good fortune to sit in when he was teaching a gospel doctrine class, you were in for a treat. His relationship with the Savior and hours spent pondering the deeper elements of his faith were self-evident. When explaining a complex, multi-faceted principle, he would often caution with the caveat, “this is the gospel according to John Price” and then expound on the idea from a very inspired and insightful perspective. He lived his life with fidelity and sense of purpose. Never judgmental of others, he was a man whose integrity was beyond reproach. He always sought out truth and light and saw the best in everyone he met.

To his sons, he was a scout leader, ski instructor, superior craftsman, and spiritual advisor. He passed his love of God and Country on to his boys and worked tirelessly as an example of self-reliance, personal accountability, having gratitude for the opportunity to be an American. John was a mechanic by trade and was a gifted fixer of all things. From Kenworth trucks to electro-hydraulic industrial equipment, he could identify the source of any machine’s maladies and restore them to service, whether on a frozen, dark, and windy interstate in Wyoming, or a giant ice cream freezer at Sysco, there was no environment so extreme or mechanical failure that he could not overcome. In 1991 John and Sue moved the family to Herriman, Utah. There they built a large house without the services of a general contractor, passing on invaluable lessons in carpentry, dogged determination, and long-term camping in the front yard.

Always a committed family man, he was devastated to lose his cherished wife of 34 years, after a long battle with MS, in 2008.

A short time later, he was blessed to meet Sheri Thompson, a member of the Midvale, Utah ward he attended. They fell in love and were married on June 25th, 2009. Faithful and loving companions, they shared in their deep faith and were selfless in their commitment to each other. Through thick and thin, they held on tightly. Family was the center of their world. The family is so grateful for the atoning sacrifice of the Savior. We take such a comfort and find blessed peace in the knowledge that we will see him again, by and by.

John is survived by his wife Sheri, her family; Michael (Mayumi), MacKinley, Mayla (Harry), Melissa, Lauren and Mike, John’s sons; John Randall (Regina), David Patrick (Sunny), Steven Huntington (Kylee), and Scott William (Brian). Brothers Grant and Lloyd. Sisters Sandra, Ruth, Larean, and Janet, and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Ann Huntington, his eldest sister Carla, her husband Calvin, their son, Jay Spratling and Sheri’s mother Armi and grandson Matthew.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the Union Fort 7th Ward, 6710 South 1300 East, Cottonwood Heights, UT. There will be a viewing on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT and from 10:00 to 10:45 am prior to the services on Tuesday at the Union Fort 7th Ward. Interment will be in Redwood Memorial Estates.

    Guestbook/Condolences

I grew up with John and his family in West Jordan Utah. It was a time of many ward and Stake activities as well as just being good neighbors with each other. We helped each other through the hard times and celebrated the good times.

I fondly remember working on the welfare farm picking tomatoes or hoeing the vegetables to keep the weeds down. I always looked forward to going because I knew John and his family would be there. My best friend growing up was Johns sister Janet. I learned a lot of different things from each of the brothers and sisters. It was a fun place to be.

I spent a lot of time at there home where something good was always going on. I remember Johns love for music and the out of doors. He loved going to church and participating in the activities. Through the years his testimony grew by leaps and bounds as well as his love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved to share his knowledge with everyone.

John has made his mark in the world through his kindness, love for his family, musical ability, genuine love for life, and most of all his Christ like example to all wherever he went. He won’t soon be forgotten.

I had the opportunity to watch the funeral. I was certainly touching in every way. The speakers paid a loving tribute in many ways. He can be so proud of his sons and the wonderful job they did. The song was wonderful as it paid tribute to John. He and his wives did raise a wonderful family.

John price was honored today… his memory lingers and not forgotten as he leaves his humor, wisdom, musical enjoyment, knowledge, love for his family, and most of all his firm testimony as well as many other talents and abilities to help us here on earth to prepare to meet with him once again beyond the veil. We all look forward to that special day and rejoice with him now as he meets with those who have gone on before.

As I came to the viewing last night, my heart was filled with love as I was greeted by the Price family . It has been about 40 or so years since I had seen most of them and they greeted me with a big smile and a hug or handshake. We exchanged a few stories and time turned back for a few minutes, the bond has grown stronger over the years. Knowing the Price family has been a true joy!
