Jon Erik Olsen was born to Robert and Sylvia Olsen on October 30, 1966, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away August 24, 2025, at his home in Sandy, Utah.
He was raised in Cottonwood Heights and graduated from Brighton High School in 1985, where he played football and was Homecoming King multiple times.
Erik served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Charlotte, North Carolina.
July 9th, 1988, he was sealed to his eternal companion, Wendy Lynn Patane, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they built a life full of love, faith, and family. They raised four children, Stettsen, Dallas, Xanthe, and Siri, instilling in them the same values of hard work, kindness, and resilience that he embodied. His legacy grew as he became the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren, each of whom adored their grandfather’s humor, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Erik worked in the family pest control business since he was 12 years old. He later became owner of Wasatch Exterminators and served as president/vice president of the Utah Pest Control and Lawn Association (UPCLA) for 27 years, where his leadership and vision left an enduring impact.
Beginning in 2006, Erik became an enthusiastic author of a pre-teen fantasy series titled Flin’s Destiny. He wrote five books in this series; four of which have been published to date, with the final book anticipated to be published in about a year. He was invited to visit several elementary schools, captivating many children with the fictional world he had created.
Throughout his life, Erik cherished the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served in various church callings and always sought to carry out his duties as a member of his ward. He tried to emulate his own father in how he honored the priesthood, always striving to be worthy and ready when the call came to use it.
Erik was preceded in death by his father and grandson. He is survived by his wife, Wendy; his four children, Stettsen (Chelsey), Dallas (Rudy), Xanthe (Bryant), Siri (Dayton); eight grandchildren; loving mother, Sylvia; and four siblings, Todd (Janet), Kimberlynn (Thayne), Bryan (Stephanie), Kristen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the LDS church on 10945 South 1700 East, Sandy UT 84092. The viewing will be from 9:00-10:45 a.m. with the funeral at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Larkin Cemetery.
Wendy, Stettson & family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Eric (as you know) was a great man. Eric & Wendy made a huge impression with my parents who thought so much of you both. Every year at the conference Eric would make a point to tell me how much he thought of them as well. You were a powerful team here & will continue in spirit. All on the Upcla board expressed how great he was. He touched many lives and will be missed. I am sending your family lots of love.
Uncle Erik was such a special person! He always welcomed everyone with a big strong hug and smile! He made everyone feel cared about. I hear him every time I saw him, He’d say “Hey Feather” to me ever since I was little. I feel extremely lucky to have had such a cool Uncle! Love you Uncle Erik! He will be extremely missed! Love you Aunt Wendy, Stett, Dallas, Xanthe, Siri! I am so sorry for this big loss. Please know the family Loves you all and we are here praying for you and offer any support we can.
Erik was a true disciple of Christ and always showed charity to those he came in contact with. He always took an interest in those around him and made the world a better place. He truly will be missed. Our deepest condolences goes out to his family.
As cousins we were often together. Erik and his siblings were wonderful examples, ones I looked up to and wished to emulate. He was kind and inviting, always helping me feel welcome. A big brother in ways I always appreciated. He's absence is felt.

Dear Wendy and family-we are heartbroken over the sudden passing of Erik. During the past 15 years in the Dimple Dell Ward, and even years before that in the Wasatch Stake, we built an enduring friendship with Erik. He had so many qualities we all loved and admired. His love of you Wendy and his family was paramount. But he loved the Savior and the gospel as well and seeing his commitment and dedication to the Church was an example to all of us. We loved his sense of humor. We never had a conversation with Erik where he didn't make us laugh! We considered Erik to be a little brother. We will miss him everyday. May the Lord bring peace and comfort to you. We are praying for you and love you.

Wendy, and family,
I was working part time after retirement and a couple mission to Baguio City, Philippines.
I didn't recognize you when you came in to visit with Darren Hall and shared the news about Erik, and I also heard about his dad's passing.
It was a joy of my day anytime either of them came into Steve Regan and shared the their wonderful spirit. It was like a ministering visit which I will miss.
My deepest condolences to your family and Bob's family as well.
Love, Henry
Wendy,
I was so saddened to hear of Erik's passing. He is a wonderful customer and a better friend. He was always joking around with everyone here where I work and genuinely interested in how everyone was doing. He is more than a great friend, with a kind word and smile for anyone. I will forever miss his great wit and teasing, no one on planet earth could keep up with his trivia and antics. To you and your beautiful family, I extend my deepest sympathies for this great loss. I know that he is busy preparing the heavenly home that he will welcome you to some day. Thank you for sharing him with me. With all the love my heart can hold, Darren
Dear Friends,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Erik's untimely passing. Wendy was kind enough to visit me at work and share this difficult news with me. To you, Wendy, Bryant and the rest of the family I express my deepest sympathies for your great loss. Erik was a great friend to me, so kind, vibrant and witty, he always made everyone at Steve Regan Company smile. Over the years we have developed quite a friendship and would often tease one another and were often able to finish each others' sentences. No one on earth could remember as much interesting trivia and movie lines as Erik. He will be greatly missed by myself and all who knew him. Erik had many gifts in this life and will undoubtedly be sharing these and others with all his family on the other side of the veil. I testify that God lives, and know that Erik lives, and is in the care of the Master Healer, Jesus Christ. I pray that our Heavenly Father's most choice blessings may attend you all as you continue to grieve the loss of this great man. Your Friend, Darren
