Tributes

One of my favorite memories of Grandpa was when he would bark at us to scare us. It always made us laugh after we jumped. He would do it when turning corners of a house while he was watering his trees. Also his voice during his prayers. It was always so smooth and strong.

Joe was my Big Brother and had to act as our dad at times when dad could not be there. Joe always took care of us. He made sure that we had all the things that we needed. And took us to all of the skateing parties and the group dances. He would even go with me to pick out my school clothes. However, he only did that once said he had never do it again. L o l i just love him so much. I will miss him so much.

I have so many fond memories of Uncle Joe. He was the man who introduced me to The Beatles and Twinkies, two things every kid should know about. He treated me like one of his own; was always incredibly kind and loving to me.

I remember when I was around nine years old, I got a bug bite that became infected. A red line began traveling from the bite up my arm, and my mom was very concerned. My dad was out of town, so she called Uncle Joe. It always felt like he was there for us whenever our dad was unavailable. He was someone our family knew we could count on.

One of my favorite memories is realizing, at around 12 years old, that his name was not actually “Unka Loaden.” That was what we had always called him. One day, I heard my dad call him Odin, so I asked, “Who is Odin?” My dad replied, “Your Uncle Joe.” Still confused, I asked, “Who is Uncle Joe?”

Once my dad and I realized that I had spent years calling Uncle Odin “Unka Loaden,” he let out the biggest belly laugh. It became one of those treasured family memories that still makes me smile.

I will always remember Uncle Joe for his kindness and his love. I am so grateful I had the privilege of calling him my uncle, even if it took me years to learn his real name.

When I was younger I remember loving Saturdays, getting to putter around with either my Dad or Uncle Joe, my other Dad on the mountain :)
At Uncle Joe's we usually got treated with pizza after we were done. I thought that was pretty awesome!
I also remember Uncle Joe one time going into his store room and bringing out a jar a pickles to which we all ate like we were starving children. Hahaha!
He called me Pickle after that, because he saw how much I loved pickles. I probably ate most of them by myself.

I spent many of my teenage years spending the night at Uncle Joe's with Heather. I loved hearing his laugh, it made me smile. One time during Sunday school, he told me if I didn't sing with everyone I get to sing the next song by myself. I can't remember what I said to his comment but it made him laugh. I sang every song after that. Many fond memories that I often think back too. I looked forward to going there. Thank you for this.

I have so many wonderful memories of Uncle Joe. He always treated me like a part of his family.

I remember him multiple times in his pajamas and robe getting ready to watch the news and telling Abbers to get me whatever kind of ice cream I wanted.

He took me with his family on a trip to Salt Lake to eat at a Chinese restaurant and stay at a hotel. I was so excited that I ate way too much and ended up in the bathroom at the hotel puking while Abby held my hair back. The next morning Uncle Joe asked how I was feeling, we told him what happened and he chuckled and said he was glad I was feeling better.

One time I tried to take a piece of cheese from a mouse trap and it got me good! Abby was with me and told me she would tell Uncle Joe with me so I wouldn't be so nervous. He just laughed! I was so relieved...

I remember him singing while we were bringing in groceries, or randomly around the house in his pajamas and robe. He had such a nice voice.

I always felt so safe and welcome around him.
I will miss Uncle Joe so much.

Uncle Joe was always somebody I could count on for a big smile and he always seemed so happy to see everyone.

I remember the fun Saturdays I got lucky enough to do pizza with his kiddos, it was mind boggling to me that this was an every ‘Saturday’ occurrence!

Uncle Joe would say, eat as much pizza as you want and don’t let those popsicles melt!

I made myself sick but it was the best day of my life. lol.

I can also never look at an overly ripe, brown banana without thinking of uncle Joe. I remember him walking into the front room and asking if anyone wanted a banana from the pile of overly brown bananas in his hand… he opened one up and took a big bite right there .. and nobody made food look more delicious than Uncle Joe..

I took one, peeled it back, took a bite hoping it would be as good as he made it seem. It wasn’t 😅 I couldn’t even finish it. Lol

I love you Uncle Joe. Thank you for being such a bright memory in my life.
