Joseph T. Barker
3/4/1948 - 3/8/2022

Joe passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 8th. He was born March 4, 1948, in South Salt Lake to Jack and Darlene Barker. He attended Judge Memorial High School.

Joe lived life on his terms. He spent a lot of his time inventing new tools to keep his hands busy, it was not uncommon to find him tinkering and fixing things around the house. He loved helping others with sincere care and expertise, Joe always had an answer for everything. Joe had a larger-than-life personality and loved sharing his information with his family and friends. He was quick to serve the neighbors. He loved to be needed and was always willing and anxious to help others in need.

Cars were Joe's true passion; his most prized possession was his 1966 black Chevelle Super Sport. The car never lost a race on State Street in the early years. He enjoyed riding his Harley and driving his many trucks, only on sunny days. He also enjoyed competitive archery; he was always competitive to the end. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, boating, and hunting. He spent many amazing hunts together with his son Rick in their favorite mountains. They shared a lifetime of successful hunts and memories.

After high school he worked his entire career at Hadley Auto Transport. He always got a kick out of pulling pranks on his coworkers and friends over the years. He really was a big kid at heart. He retired early at age 54-1/2, after 35 years in the automotive industry. After retiring he was still living the auto dream acquiring and maintaining vintage trucks. This is the Joe we all knew and loved.

He is survived by his loving and supportive wife Diane, of 49 years. His children Jana Lea, Rick Joseph (Teagan) Granddaughters Josie, Tinley, Ryzee, and Hadley. Sister Nancy (Robert) Defa, brother Hugh Westman, and his best friend his jack russell Harley D. He is preceded in death by his parents, Aunt Shirley, and all his beloved dogs.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held Friday, March 18th, 2022 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 S) in Sandy from 11am to 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation or Best Friends Animal Society.
