Joyce Thygerson Dawson

1934 ~ 2023

Joyce Thygerson Dawson passed away peacefully on March 7, 2023, of renal failure with family by her side and is finally reunited with her eternal companion, DeLoy Seal Dawson. Joyce was born on April 6, 1934, to David Owen and Phyllis Bigler Thygerson in Salt Lake City, Utah and was the second oldest daughter of six children, three girls and three boys: Jeanne, Joyce, Janice, Phil, Robert and Richard.

She met the love of her life, DeLoy, at the age of 13 at a church stake dance. She knew then and there she wanted to marry him. They dated for several years, and she waited for him while he served an LDS Mission and Army Military Service. They were married on February 3, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had four children.

She graduated from South High School. Worked at Mountain Bell and AT&T for 30 years.

Most would tell you how innocent and sweet she was, but those who were close to her also knew she had a very playful mischievous side when she wanted to. Joyce also had to have her hair and nails done on Saturdays to always look her best, no matter the occasion. She enjoyed being in the garden to plant flowers but didn't like pulling weeds or “those damn snails,” as she would say.

Being with friends and family meant everything to her. She enjoyed many Sunday dinners, homemade ice cream, birthday parties, and putting up Holiday decorations. Joyce also had many church callings over the years; however, she enjoyed serving in the Salt Lake Temple the best. She will be greatly missed by many.

Joyce is preceded in death by her loving husband DeLoy Seal Dawson, daughter Debbie Dawson, sisters Jeanne Brown and Janice Beckstrom, brother Richard Thygerson, both of her parents and many other friends and family members. She is survived by her brothers Philip (Sherry) Thygerson and Robert Thygerson, children Scott (late wife Janet) Dawson, Becky (John) Rowley, Keith (Gail) Dawson, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living Center for their friendship, support and care. Also, a special thank you to Suncrest Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, UT.
