Denyce Bette Wynveen Bouwman

1940 ~ 2017

Denyce Bette Wynveen Bouwman passed away peacefully on July 3, 2017 after a hard fought battle with Alzheimer's. Born August 14, 1940 to Earl and Jeanne Wynveen in Oostburg, Wisconsin. When she was 7 years old, Denyce and her younger sister were hit by a car getting off the school bus. Denyce survived the accident but her sister Judy did not. Denyce carried the scars of that accident the rest of her life but did not let them slow her down. She attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and graduated from the Blodgett School of Nursing in 1962. She met Bill Bouwman on a blind date in 1960. They married September 22, 1962 and he was the love of her life for 49 years. Denyce worked a few years as a nurse, while Bill finished school, and then became a stay at home mom. Over the years, their home was opened to many people from different countries and walks of life. Denyce never hesitated to welcome people in and care for them. She was an amazing organist and pianist who played not only for church on Sundays but for many funerals and weddings over the years. She enjoyed travelling with Bill and her family. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church until Bill retired and they moved to Oregon. After losing Bill in 2012, Denyce moved back to Utah and began living in a memory care unit at Wentworth. She is survived by her three children Jim (Michelle), Julie (Karl) Cunigan and Kevin, eight grandchildren Miranda, Kaitlyn, Andrea, Braden, Rachel, Allison, Nathan and Cole and her brother Jan (Judy). Thanks to Wentworth and Brighton Hospice for caring for Mom in her final years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 855 East 4800 South, Suite 100 Salt Lake City, UT 84107. A celebration service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran, 8575 S. 700 E Sandy Ut on July 22nd at 11 am. A time of fellowship will follow the service.
