June Hymas Ames was born on October 11th, 1940, and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 24, 2023. She graduated from cosmetology school and owned a salon. There she met hundreds of people who became lifelong friends. She served on the Utah Hair Fashion Committee. She won first place at a styling contest at the Hotel Utah. She was also an amazing western artist. As an artist she won numerous blue ribbons at the Utah State Fair. She also won the “Best of Show” for the Zions Bank Staircase Galleries with her painting of Bryce Canyon. As a western artist she sold paintings all over the world. In the church, she held many offices, including Stake Young Women’s President in Layton. She cared deeply for the young women she served.

She loved her family and being a mom, grandma, and great grandma. She never forgot anyone’s birthday or anniversary, always sending out cards. She loved to support her grandchildren by attending their school events, sporting events and any other special occasions.

She loved traveling with her family, especially her husband Cliff. They would travel in their trailer, frequenting places like Yellowstone, Lava Hot Springs, Teton National Park and Jackson Hole. She loved camping with her family, especially in the mountains of Beaver surrounded by her grandkids. She loved to travel all over the world, going to Paris, Japan, South Korea, etc. Some of her favorite destinations were Acadia Park in Maine, art galleries in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Taos, New Mexico, Scottsdale, Arizona, California and Hawaii. She loved taking her family to Disneyland. She traveled to Japan with the Utah Business Women to attend a conference. She traveled the United States finding subjects to paint for the art she loved.

She grew up on a farm with her horse Prince. She loved drawing and painting beautiful pictures of horses. She also loved to go horseback riding with her kids. She met her husband at the Gold and Green Ball in Hunter, Utah, later telling her mother that she had met the man she would marry.

June was loved by many, to know her was to love her. She loved helping people in any way she could.

Guestbook/Condolences

I was one of the very lucky young women in Layton that got to have June touch my life. I still remember so many important lessons she taught me including when handed a lemon - make lemonade. She gave us lemons, and the. Had us cut an X in the lemon and stick a candy straw in it. As we sucked through the straw- we had lemonade. I have tried to emulate June as I have taught the young women over the years. I hope I was half the teacher/example that she was.

June was one of the sweetest people I know. I met her 14 years ago when we moved to St. George as I was walking. We became fast friends. I had her paint a picture of my Dad’s horse Amigo. It hangs proudly in my sunroom. Every time I look at it I will think of my dear friend June! I love you and I will miss you dear June!!❤️❤️

I am so saddened to hear of my favorite Aunt passing away. She was such a humble, remarkable, sweet, kind, loving, caring, fun amazing woman! Best Aunt anyone could ever have. I will remember the fun times we had in beaver, grandmas Christmas parties, the Christmas party we had at your home the fun times in lava hot springs and Donnetta Hot Springs and many more. Rest in peace Aunt June, I love you and will see you again soon! Uncle Clifford, Michelle, Emily, Glenn and Greg, I am so sorry for your loss of a remarkable mother and wife. she was an amazing example to you all. I pray for you for comfort and peace until you meet again. I miss you all and love you very much. I am sorry me and my family could not attend her funeral. It breaks my heart not being able to say goodbye in person. May she be in peace now that she’s free of any pain or discomfort she had here on earth and that she is rejoicing with Lisa and all the others up there.
We Love you so much,
Susan, Devin and HayLee Staker

It was my pleasure knowing June for so many years. I met June and Cliff at Lava Hot Springs . It was fun
talking about our families and discussing getting our two children together. As it turned out they did get
together, married and have two wonderful boys!

I was sorry to hear of her passing, but I knew how much she suffered. I just want to express my sympathy
and condolences to the entire Ames Family. She will be missed by all. Love to all, Pat Klein

Heaven has gained a beautiful soul. June was a light, an example of love and patience as a Young Womens leader. The life-long impact for me cannot be understated. Love and peace to Ames family. Share and ice cream cone with my mama!
