Betty Gorbutt Low

1926 ~ 2016

Betty peacefully returned to the arms of her loving Heavenly Father Monday, March 28, 2016. She was born Betty Colleen Gorbutt to Mearl C. Gorbutt and Martha Ann McArthur in Lovell, Wyoming on July 8, 1926. She spent her early years in Lovell, Wyoming graduating from Lovell High and she often spoke of her many fond memories of Lovell as well as family and friends.

She served an LDS mission in the Eastern States Mission in 1947-1948 and then on June 13, 1952, she married James Call Low in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They made their first home in California while James completed his internship and residency to become a doctor in Family Medicine.

Betty enjoyed serving in many callings in the LDS Church, many of which called for the use of music, one of Betty's passions. She was a choir director in many of the wards and stakes that they lived in through the years and she had the privilege of conducting the choir for the Logan Temple rededication and the Bountiful Temple dedication. She also served as a choir director for a small secular choir in Preston, Idaho that received requests to perform all throughout the area. In addition to her talents as a choir director, Betty also enjoyed singing and played the piano, organ, guitar and saxophone.

Another of Betty's passions involved anything to do with the LDS Church and more specifically, family history. She served as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple for many years spending the last 3 of those years as a supervisor. Following her husband's retirement, they were called to serve as family history missionaries in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

She is survived by her four children; Cydney Cox, Jeffrey, Scott (Leah), and Stacey (Aaron) Workman; her 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Merry (Ted) Asay and sister-in-law, Dionne.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents and three brothers Richard, Bruce and Newton and her son-in-law, L. Lamoine Cox.

There will be a viewing at Larkin Mortuary at 260 E. South Temple, SLC on Saturday April 2, 2016 from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held in Lovell, Wyoming on April 4, 2016 following which she will be buried in the Lovell Cemetery.
