Joyce Marie Stapley

1924 ~ 2014

After 89 years of a life well lived, Joyce Stapley our lovely mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and aunt, passed away quietly on July 8, 2014 from complications resulting from a fall. Joyce was born August 16, 1924 to Hugh and Lila Kelley in Delta Utah. Joyce was the oldest of five children. She grew up in Delta and went to Dixie College and later graduated from Salt Lake Nursing Academy. She lived through the best of times and the worst of times. She grew up in the depression. Her mother died at a young age and Joyce raised her younger brother and sisters. She sent her childhood friend, Bill off to WWII and after his return they married.

Joyce worked many years as a nurse at SL County, U of U, Shriners and Cottonwood Hospitals and retired after working many years for the Salt Lake Health Department where she immunized countless children. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities. Everyone felt accepted by Joyce's tender heart, she was a genuinely compassionate caregiver and took care of all those around her. We truly felt her unconditional love.

Joyce married William Marden Stapley in the Salt Lake Temple, they had 5 children. She is survived by her children, William Jr. "Billy", James Dennis, Gary (Wendy), and son-in-law Jerry Forrest, 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and two siblings Jimmy (Maureen) Kelley, and Pauline (Marv)Bowser.

She is preceded in death by her "dearie" Bill, parents, daughters, Jackie Forrest and Lila Jean and two sisters, Coral Huddleston and Margaret White. Her influence for good and example of selflessness in always putting others first, will forever be felt in our lives.

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11:00 am at the East Millcreek North 16th Ward, 3408 South Celeste Way (3120 East). A visitation will be held, Friday, from 6-8 pm and on Saturday from 10:00-10:45 am at the ward. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
