Lowell Morris Sorensen

1919 ~ 2014

Lowell Morris Sorensen, 95, of Salt Lake City, Utah died April 20, 2014. He was born March 19, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Fred Alfred Sorensen and Mary Minerva Morris Sorensen.

He served in the US Army from 1941 to 1945 in the 97th Anti-aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion in Hawaii. He married Patricia Lee Porter on June 16, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He worked as a carpenter with his father, Fred A. Sorensen, building homes in the Harvard, Yale and Saint Mary's area. He continued the father/son tradition by building homes with his son, Scott. He loved flowers, gardening and working on his house. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as a Scout Master for many years.

Dad loved to listen to the radio. Many times you could not reach him because he had the volume up too loud. He had a great love for life and touched the hearts of all who met him.

He is survived by four children, Debra (John) Strasser, Jeff (Leshia) Sorensen, Scott (Sylvia) Sorensen and Malia (Bill) Saxton; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sister, Barbara (T.G. Bud) Mahas.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Sorensen and his parents.

A funeral service will be held Friday, April 25, 2014 at Larkin Sunset Lawn (2350 E. 1300 S.) at 11:00 AM. Friends and family may visit Thursday evening form 6 to 8 PM and again on Friday from 10 to 10:45 AM prior to services at Larkin Sunset Lawn. Interment will be held in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
