Marilyn passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2015 surrounded by her family at her home in Draper after a short battle with cancer. She was born September 1, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Hillard Arthur and Sophia Smith Maxfield. She was the 5th of 7 children and a graduate of South High School. She married Earl Dowland, December 19, 1947. She was the proud and devoted mother of 8 sons and a dedicated and loving grandmother.
She was a member of the LDS church and a long time active member of the PTA. Marilyn and Earl enjoyed numerous trips across the United States in their motor home with dear friends and relatives. She was a very thoughtful person, always remembering many, many people with cards for all occasions.
Survived by her sons Mike (Marcia), Jeff (Linda), Tim, Tom (JaNean), Bob (Cyndy), Randy (Janet) and Jason (Christina), daughters-in-law Jeanie and Royetta, 27 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, sister Eileen and sisters-in-law Earlene and Doris. Preceded in death by her husband, sister Norine, brothers Dick, Arthur, Bob and Paul, son Dennis and her grandson Tony.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October. 1, 2015 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
