Jane Jeffs Chaffin

1921 ~ 2014

Jane Chaffin passed away peacefully on December 8, 2014, just one day after her 93rd birthday. One of ten children, Jane was born on December 7, 1921 to Fred and Jane Jeffs of Salt Lake City. Although she struggled with several brain aneurysms in her teenage years, she graduated from West High School in 1939. On January 22, 1945, she married career military man Melvin H. Chaffin. For the next 20 years, she traveled around the world as a military wife and mother, living in Japan and Okinawa as well as in many stateside locations. After her husband retired from the Air Force, they moved to Bountiful, Utah, where she remained until her death. She loved gardening, making occasional trips to Wendover, and later in life became very interested in watching the Utah Jazz, tennis, and dancing on television.

Jane is survived by her son Jim and daughter Sharon, who was her outstanding primary caregiver for the last ten years. She is also survived by three sisters, Betty Knorr, Rose (Tony) Rezac, and Arlene Tschaggeny, as well as sister-in-law Dorothy Jeffs and many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff at Symbii Hospice, especially Elissa, who took such amazing care of Jane during her final months.

A viewing will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, at 2350 East and 1300 South in Salt Lake City from 11:30 am to 1:00pm. There will be a brief graveside gathering shortly thereafter.
