Our loving mother, nana, and friend, Karen Ann Amundsen Wood, passed away peacefully on December 23rd, 2024, in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 77. Karen was born on June 10, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Violet May Forbes Amundsen and Horace Woodbury Amundsen.
She graduated from South High School and continued her studies at the University of Utah. It was there that she fell in love with her eternal companion, Clark Wood. Karen and Clark were sealed in the Salt Lake temple in August 1967.
She was a devoted wife and dedicated mother and grandmother to her six children and 24 grandchildren. Karen was classy, refined, and silently strong. She loved to read, sew, cross stitch, go to lunch with friends, and socialize with dinner groups. Karen cherished the moments when she traveled with Clark, her sisters, and her family. She gravitated toward cities and beaches, whether it was antique shopping with her sisters or yearly trips to Newport Beach with her family.
She was a faithful woman to the end of her life, leading by example to her children and others around her. Karen took great pride in her grandchildren and relished the many hours she spent at games, performances, recitals, and various other activities. She also lived a life of service to her family, neighbors, and friends. She and Clark served numerous years at the Juvenile Detention Center as well as at St. Joseph’s Villa.
Karen is survived by her children: Trisha Cutler (Wes), Alissa Hollberg (John), Bryan (Amber), Emily Montmeny (Shawn), Jenni Bjorklund (Russ), and Michael (Liz); siblings Diane Oliphant (Roger), Betty Wright (Kent), Jim Amundsen (Sherry), and Debby Hille (John). She is also survived by her 24 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Violet Amundsen, as well as her husband, Clark Wood. The family would like to thank Spring Gardens Senior Living Holladay and Inspiration Hospice for the wonderful care she received over the past several weeks.
A funeral is scheduled for Friday, December 27th, 2024, at the Yalecrest Chapel at 11:00 AM (1035 S 1800 E, SLC, UT. 84108), with a viewing prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A viewing will also be held Thursday night, December 26th, at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary (2350 E 1300 S SLC, UT 84108) from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Dearest Emily and family,
Sending my deepest condolences and thoughts about your loss. Such a lovely woman- just like her daughters. My love and prayers are with you.
I knew your Mom at South High and she was always a beautiful, caring and fun person! She was so well liked and loved by those who knew her. A good friend to everyone, she made you feel good being with her! My husband went to school with your dad and what a great couple they made, so beautiful, so concerned with being Christ-like in their lives. What a wonderful legacy they left you!
