Listen to Obituary

Kay Rasmus Johnson - Born in Ferron, UT on December 9th 1933 to Clement and Alice Johnson. Kay passed away peacefully at home in Kearns, UT on April 8th 2025.

Kay spent his early years on the family farm east of Monticello where he was the youngest of seven children. He was a little cowboy and developed a great love of horses. From the age of 5 he worked with his father on the family farm doing everything from hoeing beans and milking cows to driving the tractor. He cherished his memories of his farm life to the end.

His family later moved to Monticello where he graduated from Monticello High School in 1952. He was an avid sportsman in high school participating in track and field, basketball, and baseball. He served a mission in Texas and Louisiana for the LDS Church

Kay married Michelle in June of 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they had four children. He began farming wheat and pinto beans in the Monticello area. He sold the farm and began a long career in insurance eventually opening his own insurance agency. In 1980 they moved to Blanding where he became involved with the Blanding City Council and later Blanding City Power. In 1984 Kay donated a kidney to his son Mike - one of the first kidney transplants performed at the then LDS Hospital in Salt Lake. In 1992 he and Michelle moved back to the Salt Lake area. This led to a career with UAMPS for over 25 years. Kay served as Chairman of the Board of UAMPS for three years after holding several other offices. During this time he scheduled power for Blanding City until he reluctantly retired at 87 years old.

Survived by his wife Michelle Monson, sister Marva Butler, son Mike Johnson (Ruth), daughters Michelle J Johnson (Glen) and Deb Johnson. Grandchildren Lisa (Matt), Jason (Jamie), Kenzie (Danny), Keegan (Bethany), Lacy (Clarke), and nine great grandchildren. Preceded in death by Robert Kay Johnson, son. Graveside services will be held 1 PM Monday April 14, 2025 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy UT.

In lieu of flowers our family encourages thoughtful consideration to become an organ donor.

Guestbook/Condolences

I most certainly thought Mr Johnson as a warm, wonderful man. He was always smiling and had a great laugh! I pray for comfort for the Johnson family.

Dear Aunt Michelle,
I send my love to you at this time . I tried to watch the graveside but never could get it connected right so I missed it. I always appreciated Kay's keeping us up to date on happenings with the Johnson family. I remember when you and Uncle Kay were married . I was about ten or eleven and thought you were such a beautiful bride. We loved you and Kay, and were always happy to get to see you, even though distance didn't let that happen real often.
We love you, Betty and Stewart
