Keaton Scott Barnes, age 23, was born on June 22, 2001, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to his loving parents, Scott Barnes and Tara Knopp. Keaton passed away on February 1, 2025, after a courageous, long and difficult battle with depression. Though his journey was not easy, he is now at peace.
From the moment he entered the world, Keaton had a gift for making people laugh. As a child, he could light up any room with his humor, known for his unforgettable dance moves and quick-witted jokes. Keaton's jewelry and unique sense of style gave him a signature look that made him instantly recognizable. You could never stay mad at Keaton—he had a way of weaseling himself back into your heart with his charm, humor, and undeniable warmth. If Keaton loved you, you were truly special. His love and care weren’t given lightly—they were earned. Once he let you in, he loved with his whole heart. Which often came with one of his hilarious nicknames—once you got one, it stuck forever.
Keaton attended Brighton High School, where he earned his diploma, and later pursued a career in truck driving, successfully obtaining his CDL license. Throughout his life, he explored various jobs, but one always held a special place in his heart—being a chef at Silver Fork Lodge as well as the food truck; Silver spoon. Cooking wasn’t just a job for Keaton; it was a way to bring joy to others, something he deeply cherished.
Keaton is survived by his parents, Tara Knopp and Scott Barnes, as well as his bonus parents, Dan Knopp and Tia Barnes. He leaves behind his beloved siblings, Kelsey Barnes, Kate Knopp, and Madison Barnes. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Ronald and Sheryl Barnes, and his maternal grandmother, Barbara Ahern. Most importantly, he leaves behind his beloved girlfriend, Daeja Cowan, and their unborn child, whom he would have cherished deeply.
Keaton was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Ahern, whom he adored and loved greatly. A friend, sibling, coworker, and son will forever be remembered and in our hearts.
The private funeral service will be held on February 13, 2025 at Larkin Sunset Gardens1950 E 10600 S , Sandy, UT, 84092. The burial will follow soon after. We will be having a celebration of life around 2pm at Silver Fork Lodge and Restaurant located in Big Cottonwood Canyon. All are welcome to celebrate our beloved Keaton.

Keaton was a good and true friend. When I was brand new at Brighton high he made me feel like I fit in. I'm so sorry for your loss.
My heart breaks to know Keaton has passed. He was one of my special kids that I will never forget. I do know he is not in pain anymore. He has the peace he was trying to find now. It was my honor to know him all thru high school in my PAWS class.

Broke my heart to hear about Keaton's passing.
Keaton was a huge part of our family for years. He was always part of "my boys" the group of boys who always loved at my house.
Always tried to keep tabs on him through his friends, regret now not reaching our myself.

This is heartbreaking 💔 I really used to enjoy talking to him he was a cool funny young man, as I used to drive the kids that lived up in The canyon to and from school back in 2019, I'm so sorry for the family's loss our deepest condolences go out to everyone who loved him.
He was always the sweetest. He defended me when I was getting bullied. He was kind of part one of the popular groups, but that never stopped him from being nice to everyone. He is missed by many.
