Kelvin Lawrence Hoover, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away Friday, July 7, 2023. He was born December 13, 1928, in Sparks, Nevada, to Raymond and Nellie Crook Green, but was raised by Glen and Alice Crook Hoover after his mother’s untimely death when he was just 11 days old. He had a wonderful up-bringing in Provo Canyon, Utah.

Kelvin joined the U.S. Army in 1946 at the end of WWII and served honorably from 1946-48. In 2016, he was privileged to go on an escorted three-day Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Kelvin graduated from B.Y.U with a degree in political science and earned a teaching certificate. He taught school for several years. He also took opera workshop classes where he grew to love opera and performed in several operas at BYU and Cardston, Canada, and later with the Utah Opera Co. in SLC. He performed with the Sacra Dulce Chorus, Olympus Male Chorus, the North Salt Lake Master Chorus, several senior citizen choirs, as well as ward choirs. He had a beautiful trained tenor voice and sang many solos.

He married his sweetheart, Norma LaVon Whitehead on July 1, 1964, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised two sons, Glen and Gary. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church positions as well as fulfilling three missions, two with his wife, Norma. Together, they also served several ward and stake missions. Kelvin was a dedicated home teacher, always striving to achieve 100%. He also enjoyed being a tour guide at Fort Bridger, Wyoming, for 7 summers.

He is survived by his wife, Norma of 59 years, sons Glen (Patty), Gary (Karen), 4 grand-children, Wesley (Kenia), Ashley (CJ), Robert (Kayla), Austin, and 3 great-grandchildren, Lucas, Annicka, and Cooper.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 12:00 PM at 875 Foxboro Drive, North Salt Lake, Utah. A viewing will be held at the same address on Sunday, July 16, from 6:00-8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will take place at Memorial Redwood Cemetery at 6500 S Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah, at 3:30 PM.
