Gordon Egon Glaus

1929 ~ 2017

Thursday morning, May 11, 2017, we lost our father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, Gordon Egon Glaus. Gordon was born on June 20, 1929 to Egon August and Blanche Christenson Glaus in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was raised along with his brother Wayne F. Glaus and sister Lorraine Glaus Nielsen in Salt Lake City, under the shadow of the Capitol Building. Gordon married Joan Thompson on January 13, 1952 and started a family. They welcomed son Brad, then came Stafford and 13 years later, Parker. They were married 60 years before Joan's passing in 2012. "60 years married: a learning experience that worked"

His work ethic began at a young age as he worked many side jobs while he was in school, from newspaper delivery boy to lifeguard at Saltair. He attended West High School where he was President of the Ski Club and Editor of the school paper. After high school, he graduated from the University of Utah, with a BS in Management/Marketing. Gordon's extensive resume grew, when at age 25, he worked as the Branch Manager at Industrial Bank. His career path led him to the steel industry where he held sales and management positions at Structural Steel and Forge, Silver Steel and Gate City Steel. He took a risk and he and a partner started a successful business, KDJ Steel. From there, he joined Metritec as Vice President/Consultant. Finally, he was instrumental in the reopening of the Geneva Steel Mill, as the Director of Sales in Provo, Utah. Gordon loved being a part of many different investment groups. He was a financial wizard and loved to talk about the stock market with anyone that would listen. He prided himself on working hard to stay fit. His favorite activities were tennis, golf and walking the track at Olympus High School. He played golf in 40 different states but never had a hole-in-one. Gordon was a member of both the Salt Lake Swim and Tennis Club and Hidden Valley Country Club. He enjoyed his weekly breakfasts with his tennis group at Dee's. Gordon and Joan loved to travel and their favorite getaway was spending the winter months for the last 20 years, in Coronado, CA. He loved to have his family and friends visit him in Coronado.

He is survived by his sons, Brad (Sheri) and Stafford, daughter-in-law Becky, grandchildren Lindsey (Creed) Stobbe, Tyler, Rylee, Briggs and Tobin and three great grandchildren, Carter, Jack and James Stobbe. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Lorraine, wife Joan and son Parker. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Online condolences welcomed at www.larkincares.com.
