In Loving Memory
1959•2026
On August 2, 2026, Kirt Webb Larson passed peacefully surrounded by his devoted family at the age of 67. He had a long battle with myelodysplastic syndrome, endured the cancer treatments thanks to a generous bone marrow transplant donor, and started to enjoy his life again. However, his fishing trips were fewer than anticipated when his lungs failed him. We all share the profound sorrow of his passing.
Kirt was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, medical provider, and hunting buddy. He married his loving wife, Sandra Brinkerhoff Larson, on July 16, 1982 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had six amazing children along with 14 cherished grandchildren. He loved each of them and FaceTimed them daily and ended every call, FaceTime, or visit with an “I love you.” His family knew he loved them fiercely and openly.
Kirt was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He valued his testimony and saw many miracles in his lifetime. He served as a missionary in the Italy Catania Mission and loved everything about it. He continued his love for Italy throughout his life and valued the enduring friendships with missionary companions. His service in the church was filled with miraculous experiences including the infamous hike through Grand Canyon with the boy scouts. He loved serving the young men as a scoutmaster, as a counselor in the bishopric, and in other callings serving the youth, which took him to the great outdoors that he loved. He was happiest in the outdoors- hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time around the campfire. He welcomed others to join him with “You are welcome at my fire anytime.” He also enjoyed his time serving as a Primary pianist and Primary teacher.
Kirt’s education included being a graduate of Kearns High School, where he reflected on stories about his cheerleading experiences- doing back handsprings, walking on his hands, and enjoying a fun atmosphere with friends. Throughout most of his life he worked as a painter for side jobs, both as a painting contractor and general contractor, and enjoyed the work. He had an art to painting and was a perfectionist in every project. With the help of family, he also worked hard at building our family home that he lived in for over 33 years. He continued his education at BYU in nursing and then again later at BYU graduating with his Master’s as a nurse practitioner. He worked in the emergency room at Pioneer Valley Hospital for 14 years. He also worked at Alta View Hospital and a short time at St. Mark’s Hospital, as well as other clinics. He opened his own family practice clinic, Step Mountain Medical, in 2000 as a nurse practitioner, which was a groundbreaking effort at the time. He loved his work, his coworkers, his patients, and made endearing friendships over the years. He combined his love for nature and work by having his office decorated with all things outdoors. When he was not working, he was in nature where he felt closest to God, “praying in a deer stand”. He loved his hunting buddies and their adventures and repeated the many stories with fondness. Besides being an incredibly avid outdoorsman, loving his time “at the ranch”, he also loved raising chickens, freeze drying, metal detecting, hosting his annual apple juicing party, and gardening. He could spend hours sitting in his garden. He also loved raising animals and had a variety throughout his life including dogs, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, rabbits, a mule, and a donkey, among many others. He was an expert at winning stuffed animals from claw machines, and his family and friends received many “stuffies” from him. He loved to have his feet massaged and spent many hours on the couch with kids and grandkids sitting opposite, massaging each other’s feet.

Kirt is preceded in death by his parents, Donovan Carl Larson and Nada Golda Webb. He is survived by his wife Sandra Brinkerhoff Larson; children, Stephanie (Tom) Colligan, Kindra (Dave) Johnson, Jamie (Brandon) Hunt, Natalie (Brock) Van Tassell, Jaicee (Dylan) Ball, and Shane (Torey) Larson; and his grandchildren, Krista, Tommy, Megan, Katelyn, Alayna, Sarah, Quinten, Shelley, Jayda, Jenna, Arizona, Maverick, Maeley, and Russell. Also survived by his siblings Byron (Marjean) Larson, Linda Hensley, Ron (Miken) Larson, Gary Larson, Donette (Jeff) Slade, Greg (Jennifer) Larson, along with aunts, uncles, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Kirt would often say to his family and those he served, “Do you know what I like about you? Absolutely everything”, which was consistently received with smiles. Many thanks are extended to the incredible staff at Loveland Clinic for their expert care, his generous bone marrow transplant donor for giving us more time with him, and to the LDS Hospital ICU team for their diligent, kind, loving attention to Kirt in striving to preserve his life. Additional heartfelt thanks to the Rose Canyon 1st Ward who have served him and his wife throughout his last years with thoughtfulness, love, and kindness, as well as the many friends, relatives, neighbors, patients, coworkers, both of his and of each of his family members, who have been diligently praying for him and his family. Kirt is on to his next adventures with those dear friends, neighbors, and relatives that have preceded him.
Services will be provided by Larkin Mortuary and held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 6869 West Vista Springs Drive, Herriman, UT 84096 with a viewing on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Saturday, August 8 from 8:30 – 9:30 am. His funeral will be on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 am. Interment in the Herriman City Cemetery.

Kirt, I already miss you my brother! You were more than my doctor for over 25 years! You were also my friend. You listened to me with genuine concern when I faced the greatest challenge of my mortal journey! Your kindness and compassion are the hallmarks of your legacy. You healed more than bodies … you helped to heal souls! May our Lord administer comfort and peace to your beloved family. Until we meet again Kirt …

You were my brothers best friend in life and now you are together again. You will be greatly missed by Geralds family. Thank you for being such an amazing friend to my dear brother and his sweet wife Cher and his family. Prayers for peace for Sandra and your family.
Kirt was a great neighbor and friend. He was my hunting buddy and was always happy to see everyone. He set a Christ like example to all of us. He will be sorely missed by everyone. We deeply love him and his family. Our prayers are with Sandra and all of his children and grandchildren as they navigate forward from this tragic event.
My favorite memory of Kirt is pheasant hunting in Northern Utah. Another neighbor (John & Chris Soule) that moved from Rose Canyon to Newton, Utah. He came out most years with his sons to hunt birds with us.
I knew Kurt when he was very young. He was a fine young man. I'm truly sorry for your loss.

I was deeply saddened to learn that Kirt has passed away. Many years have gone by since Kirt and Sandra welcomed me to their family for a student year and in my memory Kirt will always be 28 and full of life.

Kirt was a great friend. To share a story with or just be there for you. We shared a paint gun together. Painting a dental office in a weekend and the contractor said it couldn’t be done. He was one of a kind in many ways and will always be remembered for goodness he did.
My heart is hurting as I had just learned the sad news yesterday when we went into the office. Kirt, you were such a light in so many lives but especially mine. You called me Kimmy which only family does, and you would always tell me how important family is. No matter what was going on in life you always had a smile. Thank you for being an amazing man. You will be missed more than words. ♥️
Kirt was a beloved mentor to our boys and to us. He took them under his wings in Scouts and in Young Men's. They loved working with the "apple cider machine" and were overjoyed to be the recipients of the delicious juice. He even went on a winter camp with them and amazed the boys that he would sleep in the deep cold with only a hammock. The boys went out to see if he froze to death and he was just out there snug as a bug in a rug. Needless to say this is their favorite memory of him. To this day we love our hammocks. He was such a loving and kind leader and he and his wife loved us and supported us while we were in the RoseCanyon 1st ward. We were strengthened by their testimonies and the way they lived their life. We send our heartfelt condolences to Sandra and all of their loved ones. You are all in our hearts and in our prayers. May the Lord bless each of you with peace that surpasses all understanding.
Kurt our hearts are so heavy with your passing and we will miss you dearly. You saved Martins life and we are so eternally grateful. You mean so much to us and we’re so blessed with your life advice and love that you shared. We are better people because we know you! Oh I am so so sad to see this. I worked for Kirt at Step Mountain Medical. He was genuinely one of the most loving, caring people I have ever met. I enjoyed our many discussions, even when he worked so hard to "convert" me. I am truly sorry for the loss of such an amazing man. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
I knew this wonderful man as my doctor. I could call him any time and he would help me with what ever I was dealing with. He saved two of my children and me from death. He called it as he saw it and really cared. I will always be grateful to him for helping me in. My time of great need. I’m so saddened my this great loss.

We love you all so much and are so deeply grateful for all the years of friendship and adventures — we can scarcely think of the past many years without some sweet memory of your amazing dad. He will always be remembered as an angel on this earth — and now he is free of suffering and in that better world where his light and love can continue forever. Kirt - I'm still so stunned at your passing, and am heartbroken for your family's loss of such a great man. I have so many wonderful memories with you, from late night ping pong, pig hunting in Texas, the Grand Canyon adventure with the scouts, to just talking together in your living room.
You saved my life as well my friend, letting me know of a heart murmur...and away I went from there. I can still hear your voice calling me "Moose" every single time you answered your phone lol!

Growing up in the Rose Canyon Ward in Herriman gave me many men I am proud to say had an incredible impact on my life as a young boy growing into a man. Kirt’s humor, wit, selflessness and righteous demeanor gave me the best influence and helped shaped me into the man I am today. I didn’t realize how much Kirt had impacted me until I recently listened to a podcast talking about how many young men today do not have mentors to help guide and influence them for good. Kirt has been an amazing father figure in my life and someone I looked up to always.
A deep sense of pride will always be with me for knowing and learning from such an incredible man of God, country, and family.

Kurt will be greatly missed. He was my nurse practitioner preceptor at Step Mountain Medical while I was a student. I was so nervous at first, but Kurt immediately put me at ease. He was always willing to take the time to teach, encourage, and help me grow.
I was the recipient of his famous line, "What do I love about you? Absolutely everything," and I will always treasure those words. More importantly, I will forever be grateful for the Christlike love, kindness, patience, and compassion he showed to everyone around him. He truly reflected the Savior in the way he cared for others and made each person feel seen and valued.
My heartfelt condolences to his family. I hope you find comfort in the many lives he touched, and I have no doubt he will continue watching over you all. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, and love that will never be forgotten.
Young Men's camp, Haystack Lake, 3 August 2018. Kurt had me do my presentation of the universe, which testifies of Jesus Christ as the Creator of the universe. The night sky was covered with stars. It was a cloudless and moonless night. When I finished Kirt took a few testimonies from the youth and from leaders, then had us all look up to the spectacular heavens and invited us to keep our eyes open during the prayer taking in the incredible view while Bishop Anderson offered the closing prayer. It was like one of the special Book of Mormon experiences.
Fast Sunday August 5th. Memorable testimony bearing experience. All testimonies borne except one were by given some of the youth and some of the leaders who had been at camp.
Brother Calder later said on several occasions that in the course of the Friday night program he felt the spirit and this led to his conversion. I know the spirit was powerfully felt.
I know Kirt was inspired to invite us all to look at the heavens while our bishop prayed for us all.
Kirt has always been very special to me, but this experience stands above the rest. Gratefully, Keith Hill.
i have so many memories of interactions with Kirt as a neighbor, church member and medical provider. My experiences with him are too numerous to list but in all of them the common thread is that he cared and I will miss seeing him with his great big smile.
