It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Kris Hohenshelt on Saturday, April 8, 2023. Known to many as “Bubba”, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Kris was born in Houston, Texas on October 31, 1952, to Keith and Dorothy Hohenshelt. He then went on to live a remarkable life, touching the lives of countless people along the way.
Kris was married to the love of his life, Jaylene, for 50 years, and together they raised two wonderful children and were blessed with six grandchildren, who Kris couldn't have been more proud of.
Kris was a graduate of the University of Utah, where he earned a B.S. in Geography and a B.U.S. in Environmental Science. He went on to have a successful career as an Environmental Professional, where he made a positive impact on the world around him.
In addition to his work, Kris was an avid reader and sports fan and loved nothing more than spending time in the great outdoors, particularly his beloved mountains. He cherished his hikes with his faithful companion, his dog Maggy. Kris was also committed to his community and spent eight years on the Emigration Community Council, where he worked to make his community a better place.
Kris had a beautiful canyon home with large floor-to-ceiling windows that provided views of the surrounding mountains from all angles. He cherished these views and spent many hours enjoying the beauty of nature from the comfort of his home.
Above all else, Kris will be remembered for his kind heart, that was accepting of all, his unwavering love for his family and friends, his unique humor and quick wit, and his unsatiable thirst for knowledge. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Kris. Your memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved you.
Kris is survived by his Wife and Best Friend, Jaylene Hohenshelt, Daughter Holly Stabile and Husband Joseph, Grandchildren Dylan Smith and Fiancé Nicholas, Kennedy Nance and Husband Jonathan, Zoe and Zaida Hohenshelt, and Gabriella and Isabella Stabile, Siblings Katherine Kohl, Karrie Jenkins and Husband Craig, and 14 Nieces and Nephews.
Preceded in death by his Son Gabriel Hohenshelt, Brother Kim (Ho) Hohenshelt, and Parents Keith and Dorothy Hohenshelt.
An informal memorial gathering will be held Friday, April 14, 2023 from 1 – 3 p.m., with Words of Remembrance starting at 2 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S., Salt Lake City.

Jay- my heart is saddened by the news of Kris's passing .... Hard to believe that it was 51 years ago that I met Kris at work ... From day one he was welcoming to the hayseed from Idaho ... Those early years in Utah carry many fond memories and Kris was front and center with that big smile of his. You two were quite a team. He will be missed

Jay, we were so shocked and saddened to hear the passing of Kris. We had so much fun with you guys over the years, including the BVI’s, Telluride and Jackson Hole. You turned us on to David Grey, Leonard Cohen, horrible bug bite and a bottomless vegetable plate, including an early breakfast wake-up call. Kris was wonderful to work with, I never had to worry about anything under his watch. Kris will always be with us.

Love,

Hank & Koula
